Wolves 0-0 Leicester: Verdict Thread

Was just about to post this, apart from Bennett’s long throws we’ve been uniformly shit at them since forever. Even halford seemed to fuck them up here.

That's probably how far you're going back!

Halford was awful at them, terrible loopy rubbish. And yet it was still the best aspect of his overall game.

You'd think the corners and throw ins are so basic a knowledge in football that everyone would know how they should work. Obviously not us.

My PE Teacher used to bollock us at school if no one moved around to create space for throw-ins. That should be a minimum right?

Corners are worked on, Mout is the head of the deaprtment. I had no problem with our efforts today, bar the one Hoever fucked up. As long as the ball gets in the area and causing problems that is all you can ask and today, when they went in (only 1 didn't I think) Leicester struggled with them

Forgot all about his throws. The guy could literally do everything. Except run.

Edit - great game that too.

Thought Halford's technique was a lot flatter than what Delap generally did, problem with Mick trying to copy that trick off Pulis was the half heartedness of it more than anything else.

Stoke sent all the big lads up like it was a corner, stuck a bunch of them at the near stick for the flick on and then had another lot attacking the back stick to try and score off the second ball. Wolves had the poor mans supply, don't think Halford every really had quite the range to hit the mark like Delap did, then you generally only ever had Berra going forward from the back to stand on the near post and that was about as far as the planning went.

I think McGhee did something caused him to go back to the Netherlands? Something else McGhee fucked up

He did fall out with McGhee, he also fell out with Taylor, but basically his injury finished him. He couldn't play any more at that level.

Shame because he should have been an absolute hero for us, him alongside Richards for a year or two would have been incredible.

Frustrating thing for me with the corners is that the people in the box never seem to attack anything, if you're playing it short then it's obviously going to delay the ball into the box, the men in the middle should use this to their advantage and start their runs deeper, making use of the extra couple of seconds to get a good run on it and really attack the cross. They all just go and stand in there like it's going to be dropped on their heads first time and we've all seen how rarely that happens.

Yeah, as DW said he was basically one legged when he came back. Such a shame, I bloody loved him. His pre-free kick flick the ball out before taking it was magnificent.

Our corners have been slightly better recently but I agree with Mark's point. If we are going to change the point of delivery you can't just stand still in the middle of the area waiting.

Throw ins are a particular bug bear of mine, not just with Wolves but whenever I coach, everyone starts so fucking close to the ball. Liverpool are the best at throw ins in terms of movements, blocking and receiving so maybe we should sign Gronnemark to help in that area. When you consider how many restarts there are from throw ins its borderline criminal not to make sure you are good at them.

Big John is the best penalty taker I've ever seen in a gold shirt too, even better than Raul and Thommo.

I obviously never saw him play but it must have been pretty cool to have a good player called de Wolf playing for us.

We'll always have the hat trick :)
My brother met him in the gym, with three packets of crisps, that's a supreme sportmans meal !

Mrs Trips was sorting through some stuff we had stored away a couple of weeks ago and came across a photo of a young me with John de Wolf before a game. She has threatened to put it on facebook next time I annoy her so it may come to light soon!

Put it on here for us to judge

Centre half and yet clearly and obviously better technically than any other player in the division at the time. But he was at milk float pace when we got him, let alone after his knee exploded.

If you're going to look like that then you'd better play like a cool bastard. And he did.
