Wolves 0-0 Leicester: VAR Rinse & Repeat Verdict

Is there such a thing? any corner routine can lead to a goal that is ruled out because VAR has found a mm of a player in an offisde position

No, but you can minimise as much as you can

No, but you can minimise as much as you can

But if you are dealing in micro mm's it is impossible to minimise it in such a tight area.

Yesterday Jota made a run into the space for Neto to play the short ball (he wasn't just standing there) as he recieved it he had a defender on him so the ball had to go back to Neto or we are probably losing the ball or its delayed to the point that the cross doesn't get to Doc or a defender spots Boly unmarked. Its a training ground issue if Neto is clearly offside.

Lets say Neto whips that ball in to the 6 yard box, Doc gets up and wins a header but at the very point he wins the header, Leicester step out at the exact right moment and Willy Boly has the plastic bit of his boot laces in an offside position are we then saying we need to change where we put the ball in from a cross?

He’s not offside (only the stupid micro analysis says he is). His whole body is literally a yard onside, and as we know, the frame rate isn’t good enough to assess the exact moment anyway. But they’ve bought in a shit rule with shit implementation so that = offside. Fine.

But then to sit here and blame the corner routine?? Get in the fucking bin.

If Jota starts out nearer the goal before he makes his run then it's a none issue. Neto was level with Jota, it wouldn't have taken much for Neto to be further offside.

Not much can be done once Neto crosses it absolutely agreed, and I'm not suggesting we can possibly legislate for every single potential offside. I do think on short corners we can legislate for potential offsides and work them in such a way so it's not an issue.

VAR is bullshit but it's here to stay for this season, we should adapt to reduce our risk where we can. To not adapt is being ignorant of reality

He was offside though by the laws of the game and those same laws will be in force for the rest of the season.

Why not give ourselves the best chance of success and figure out how not to get caught out again.

I'd rather we adapt than have to moan about getting VARd again for a short corner routine

I’m sorry but nobody with the naked eye can even see offside as a possibility. Go safely away from that margin and the routine is less likely to be effective. Blaming the routine is an absolute nonsense.

They did factor it in... but in the heat of the moment you can’t account for a fucking trailing leg. Maybe the other 1000 times they’d tried it Neto ran 0.00001mph faster and or passed it 0.00001mph slower and therefore was 2 yards onside (yet his trailing leg was only 0.00001mm onside).

I’m done

The only thing where slide rule technology is 100% warranted is goal line. This offside by your bootlaces nonsense is clearly not what the technology was brought in for , is not how its been asked to be implemented or used by anyone other than Mike the cunt Riley and his stockley park cronies.
A pox on him and his ilk.

I think we all agree. Var sucks. The implementation in the PL has been horrendous and is killing the game and our love of the game. Where we differ is in what we can do to stay within the rules as they are currently being interpreted. We could have done more yesterday.

1) There's no way they'll keep it the same next year, the backlash is just too big. It's not just fans, it's players, managers and the media. No-one is backing them up, not even the international authorities

2) We have 12 games to go

3) We're probably going to finish about where we are now because that's about how good we are, and the Europa League is a bigger priority now for as long as we're in it

So I wouldn't go messing with a load of stuff to fit a dreadful system for three months. I'd put more effort into showing them how badly the system has represented us this season and why we need change. Fuck it, I'll do it for free.

I'm not sure why we wouldn't want to do more to stay inside the rules. It's literally just a little more thought around positioning

It's a bloody millimetre at full pelt. There is no thought about that. And if you go safe and aim for a metre onside then you don't ever make any opportunities.

Chances are made at the margins.

I hope we do exactly the same again.

Watching the cricket yesterday in the pub pre-match.

Bit of a shocker in England's favour (hit Bavuma's glove rather than his pad), clearly the umpire has had a nightmare there, reviewed and TV intervenes to overturn what would have been a proper injustice.

If there's anything remotely close then it stays with the on field umpire. There has to be conclusive, obvious proof to turn that decision around.

We have to go back to on field primacy or nothing will change. If they seriously mess up or there's something off the ball that they couldn't be expected to see between them, then fine, have a word. Get him to go and have a look for himself if you want given the facility is there. Otherwise leave well alone.

When you have a farce where even Mike Dean didn't know who was supposed to be offside there - we certainly didn't inside the ground, once again communication was woeful, no information on the screen about who we're supposed to be checking and a replay that was popped up for a second at absolute best (and I can't see the best these days all the way to the opposite corner of the ground to a fairly low res screen!) - then it just emphasises what a broken system we have.

Feel free to go through any week of Bundesliga match reports and count the number of VAR controversies. If they happen then they'll get mentioned. But amazingly they have very few and we seemingly have multiple events every single week. They should maybe reflect on that.

100% spot on with common sense - something which the PGMOL totally lack.

It's pretty easy to guaranteed compliance with the rules. If there's no defender on the line you know it makes it more difficult to player the short corner without being offside. So if you see no defender on the line either the taker has to bust a real gut to get back onside otherwise you don't play it short, it's not difficult.
