Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

I can see how it makes the club a better prospect to buy if there is no debt even if the club can service it. Then the question is 'Are we really serious about selling?'.

But if you take that money out and the parachute money you'll be in loss territory. Then this season, Afobe's money will probably put us to break even point.

As TSB alluded to the other day, we don't need to break even, we can have debt and a loss as long as we can service that debt. So, if we borrowed £30m and paid back £2m a year it really wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, Moxey is under the impression that their has to always be + in the profit column with no debt.

We get a solidarity payment next season - suspect turnover will be £23-£25M

Given the way the Championship has changed in the last year or two concerning the transfer fees and wages etc borrowing £30M becomes a far more riskier proposition. If that fails it's not easy to borrow another £30M and try again. That is a hell of a lot of debt for a championship club to be lumbered in. The right team at Wolves could make £5M go a lot further than the current team spending £20M or £30M.

Recent history tells us different, Other than through the play offs, which is a lottery, the teams that spend are the teams that get promoted.

Although given respective finances we compared favourably with Watford and Bournemouth. On going I suspect the heavy spenders will move ahead but relegated clubs are hit and miss. I was one of those who feel 'footballing nous' is far more important. I wouldn't like to give the current set up £30M put it that way. Looks like we will be needing another sugar daddy - suspect there aren't many queuing up.

Tarkowski still refusing to play for Brentford. YW has mentioned him before and questionable attitude aside (seems par for the course with footballers these days) he'd be ideal for us. Miles better than a sticking plaster solution like Williamson. The thing is at the moment, outwardly at least, we aren't showing any signs of wanting to outperform Brentford let alone the likes of Burnley.

The club need a bit of a kick here. We're now relying on Sig (last started a league game for us in 2013) up top? We're really going to sell our best player and buy absolutely no-one? They must realise how terrible that looks.

There is a stark reality. We are moving out of the 'relegated club with parachute' phase. A proven quality player in this league is going to cost us minimum £7M and I would imagine wages of £20K + We need probably seven additions ! I watched Andre Gray the other night and thought he looked quite average.

*breaking news* - the club can't afford to do this.

You certainly don't need to be spending £7m on a player. I bet Bournemouth's entire first XI last season didn't cost that.

That's ridiculous Papper. Wolves don't need anything like that. We do need a good forward thinking manager and one or two additions. You don't need to spend huge money to do it but you do need to spend some. And each position will come with a different price tag too. Saying an arbitrary £7m is silly.

Would you have faith in our club buying like Bournemouth did and assembling a winning side like they did?

Rowe, Saville, Coady, Wallace etc etc

The one player they paid the going price for (which has risen dramatically for any quality player) is the only player that is good enough to play at a higher level.

But that's what I'm saying. The current set up is not fit to match the budget. It's not the money it's the footballing nous.

We would be better giving a few more of the youth a run out (providing we guarantee safety) but I would focus on offloading a few more than Afobe. There needs to be a massive overhaul.

No, but that's a different question. I have no faith in Kenny Jackett, haven't for nearly three months.

And that's a fair call. I have no faith in Morgan finding the right people who could match any budget. The wrong people with a bank funded £30M would scare the wotsits off of me.

Middlesbrough's attempts to get striking options and squad improvement in depth include 14 million in bids for McCormack and Phillips today. Another owner willing to find money for a promotion push.

Aren't you on the wrong thread, shouldn't this be on the Football News thread? Or are you trying to bore everybody to death again with your 'No Ambishun', 'Morgan wo spend', 'Spending gazillions is the only way to win anyfing'?

Johnny don't be a small minded cyber bully. The post is directly below the Morgan conversation. You are being pathetic in the true dictionary sense. The facts really do speak for themselves. I have just watched Jackett say how difficult it is to sign a striker in the current inflated market. We are in limbo and showing few signs of anything other than bumbling along with statements placating our lack of activity. Feel free to be happy with lower mid table mediocrity. I want better and do want the club to show they want that too. There are enough weak areas identified in our current squad to have warranted more activity than there has been. Still time. But come 1st Feb if we have still not improved the squad sufficiently I will be watching how you and a number of other posters on here defend the indefensible.

Middlesbrough top of the league and strengthening their promotion push <> Wolves hanging around mid table not going anywhere.

Not going anywhere because of making no signings or because the 8 point gap to the playoffs is too large?

Whilst we have been playing atrocious football, in reality we aren't as far off the playoffs as our football has deserved. A few signings could see us make a push, end the season on a high and have some hope next season.

Fair comment but only 8 points from the playoffs and games to come that means 6 the place could be up for grabs.. If we are going to do nothing let's just say that and explain why. Every day I come on here looking for some hope and leave having been rubbished by many. I still come back and I still hope but reserve my absolute right to moan and groan about the situation. I don't care if people agree or disagree. Its a forum.

We are miles off challenging for the top six! Absolutely nowhere near.

We spent ages not actually being in the bottom three in 2011/12 but we were quite patently a relegation team.
