Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

Frankly, until we've actually sold these players, you're being melodramatic.

Afobe wanted away. Hard to hold that up as a sign the club are just interested in pocketing money from promising youngsters. The rest, we have no reason to believe we'll sell them just for the Hell of it if they don't want to leave.

For now, these rumors are nothing more than an affirmation that our youth development is remarkably healthy. So, a good thing. Not a bad one. Yet.

You may be right but there have been a large number of posts over the last 2 windows accusing posters of" pant wetting" yet in many cases this incontinence has been fully justified looking at who we have signed or not and who we have sold. Dress it up how you like but I cannot see anything positive being remembered about this season now Graham is injured. It may only be a rumour but if Iorfa is also sold fans will be incandescent. Who can blame them. I will still wait until 1st Feb for a full verdict on this window as there is still time but at the moment I am , as usual, underwhelmed .

That we've had a poor few windows is not really up for debate. It's been one diamond among four or five dirt clods for the most part. That does not, however, mean we're becoming a "selling" club.

I think our transfer record in terms of outgoing players has been massively taken for granted. In the past few seasons we've only sold two players who can be characterized as regular contributors: Stearman and Afobe. Why we sold Stearman, who knows? Afobe wanted to leave. So in reality that's one starting XI player we've sold without any obvious footballing logic. That's a damn sight better than most clubs at this level, I'd wager.

We could discuss the sales of the likes of Jacobs, Ricketts, etc. until we have a new club owner, but the fact is that they weren't near the first team when they were sold (rightly or wrongly).

So lets try and stay level headed. Football is not a sprint.

You can't stop players being linked to other clubs?? Some of us just don't have heart attacks every time some bull shit is printed somewhere.
He's an England U21 international so he's gonna get some press.

Maybe I am being a touch melodramatic but I an starting to see a pattern developing where we lose players and don't try to replace them.

Iorfa will go in the summer imo and this means we have even more work to find further players.

Also I don't think 'pocketing' the money is the correct term, I think we are slow to react and haven't correctly identified targets within our budget. This has happened over the summer and so far this window.

Charlie Adam permanently yes please. On loan, I don't see the point

I suspect our budget is a great deal less than most people expect. Kenny hit the nail on the head when he said that we're most probably looking for a £2 million striker for £200,000. Whoever really has control over the purse strings knows, as well as we do, that Wolves aren't going to get promoted this year. The hole in the finances because of the loss of parachute payments needs to be covered.

Whilst we may see some money spent on fees, I doubt there will be any splashing out on wages. I think it will be unlikely that we will see anybody like Mike Williamson or Charile Adam signing on a permanent basis.

I agree. We won't spend anything like we've brought in imo

I don't know if this is true but was told last night the in Jez's contract his bonus is totally dependant upon the club making a profit !!! He gets a % of the profit.

It may be rubbish but If true it explains a lot !!!!!

It would be a bit foolish of any CEO at a football club to have all bonuses based on the club making a profit! Jez Moxey is not a fool...

He got a bonus when we took the massive book loss through writing off the value of the bomb squad. He also took a bonus (greatly reduced) when we were relegated.

A part of it may be profit related, but certainly not all of it. And to have a bonus of percentage of profits would be nonsense, and also break virtually every rule of corporate governance.

Pretty sure he didn't get a bonus after 2012/13, he actually said he'd taken a wage cut.

He took a basic cut for sure, because he said he should be in line with others who were taking a relegation wage cut (that was said at the parliament if I remember correctly), but I thought he got a small bonus as well. I stand corrected if not.

However, the corporate governance point remains. As CEO there is a strict limit on the percentage of basic salary that can be paid as a bonus. Unless the arrangement was capped, you simply couldn't have a "percentage of profit" guaranteed bonus.

:icon_lol:

Think it's been about three weeks since I mentioned Charlie Adam in this very thread. It was only a matter of time...

Oh yeah, it's absolute nonsense. For a start the accounts are a matter of public record and there is not and never has been any sight of such a bonus.

Almost as good as the crackpot theory I heard from the resident lunatic in my old local - that Moxey had instructed Hoddle to make sure we finished outside the playoffs so we didn't have to pay the squad a hefty bonus.

I keep logging on expecting to see the old 'welcome to Wolves' thread, I dread to think what's gonna happen if there's not at least another one or two before the end of the month.

I'm not really expecting anybody in permanently but maybe a defender on loan. We are going nowhere this season on or off the pitch and I would imagine the board know this. When we reach 54 pts (guaranteed safety mark) then I think we should bin the manager and give Rob Edwards the rest of the season and if he succeeds in a change of style and attacking flair then give him the gig permanently, if not get a manager in who can.

It's a no lose situation for all parties, even if a new owner comes in.

Interesting thoughts, it would enable some clarity as to the coaching at Wolves, is Edwards part of the problem or could he solve a few of the problems. We can't know unless he is given the opportunity.
