Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

I never said anything about wanting him back.

I wouldn't say he shat on the club, plenty of players up sticks following a relegation, he was pretty unprofessional with the phrasing but he was honest with the fans if nothing else and it didn't seem to do any harm to Wolves' negotiating strength.

No you didn't but I don't. There are better for less with less baggage

Given that this season is a lame duck I can't see the point in major overhaul of the squad now - spend the rest of the season working out whether any of the recent purchases have got any future at the club and have a go in the summer when we have a new manager.

Whilst I agree with this as a strategy, it's a bit of a loser for the club isn't it? I mean, how can they sell it? Can't really go down the road of "happy with what we've got", nor can we publicly say we don't think we'll go up.
And if we don't make any signings, there will be a lot of "taking money out the club/no ambition" style allegations, in spite of the fact that what we're actually doing is an appropriate business strategy.

The other thing I'd be wondering about is how many players contracts expire this season? Would it potentially leave us too much to do over the summer? I'm sure a list of those out of contract has been posted on the forum somewhere, but my search skills are cack.

Fletcher is the most naturally gifted players I have seen at Wolves for as long as I can remember. Very natural and played with instinct.

Even though he shat on us massively, I still look back on his time here with much fondness.

Same here I was having a conversation/argument with a friend of mine who was saying Afobe was the best striker we have had since Bully when we sold him when I was sating Fletcher was twice the player sure Benik was a few years younger while he was here but Fletch's first touch and finishing was first class he was such a talented player but had an even bigger ego than his talent.

Pretty sure that I'm not expecting much, but would just like an organiser in to sort the back line out and stop the necessity to have 9 in defence. Then bring back those we have bought and loaned out (Wallace/Byrne/Evans) & see what they can do.

They may not work out, but would rather find that out now whilst we are hovering than next year when we are hopefully pushing for a promotion.

Golbourne and Sig are pretty much the only first teamers out of contract.

Suspect that we won't offer Golbourne another contract as Kenny seems not to value his contribution. Siggy probably depends on performances between now & the season end (assuming that he can stay fit)

Could suggest this season is a lame duck, Moxey comes out and says instead of making panic buys now for over inflated prices we're R E A L L Y going to invest money in pre-season to get things right, everybody rushes out to renew like its the second coming of Saint Jack, we spend £2m on another 42 central midfielders in our quest to replace Jack Price and then Moxey gets to look at us from the Directors Box in August next season like...

100% agree

just a few rumours I've seen today:

RVLP has recieved 3 bids:

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/01/2...tm_source=twitter&utm_content=HITCdeadlineday

FL92 linking Iorfa with Stoke (HITC also menion Iorfa and Stoke but only that Stoke and Everton are "tracking his progress..."

Either way, Wolves seem to be quickly becoming a selling club and not a club that is seeking to improve. Guess it's the insurmountable 8 points between Wolves and the play-offs that means we need to completely give up on the season.

The value of getting a leader at the back is it would speed up the development of the young players. Iorfa and hopefully Hause will learn far more playing in an organised back four rather than one where EEL and Batth are all at sea.

If we don't make a couple of signings we certainly will be seen to have given up on the already unlikely playoff charge.
The big problem is most fans are becoming disillusioned with the club. How long to replace Sako and Dicko now? Doesn't fill me full of optimism that Afobe or Graham will be replaced in the summer let alone now.
Crowds are dropping, interest waning. We hear ghe same things from the club every transfer window lately. Season tickets sales will be badly hit if there are no incoming transfers (or I suppose a take over). I just don't think making no signings can be spun as positive however sensible it might be to some. It will be interesting to see if the club do suggest a summer spending spree if the worst happens.

As a footballer, I'd like to see him here (although I don't see where or how he fits into a Kenny Jackett team).

As a signing, is he going to get us promotion this year, no, are we going to get relegated if we don't sign him, no, would we have any real chance of signing him permanently, no. So I don't see the point.

He'd be an upgrade on McDonald but he's got exactly the same weaknesses too, can't defend or even get about particularly well.

He should get you a few more goals from set pieces and the odd long ranger but I can't see him really making that much of a difference to make it worthwhile, especially when you consider his age too, just doesn't seem much point to me.

Frankly, until we've actually sold these players, you're being melodramatic.

Afobe wanted away. Hard to hold that up as a sign the club are just interested in pocketing money from promising youngsters. The rest, we have no reason to believe we'll sell them just for the Hell of it if they don't want to leave.

For now, these rumors are nothing more than an affirmation that our youth development is remarkably healthy. So, a good thing. Not a bad one. Yet.
