Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

About 5 million. We all went wtf with Clarke. Coady started well. Wallace was a signing that received positive responses. There is a clamour for Byrne to get more game time. We haven't even brought in free transfers. We have areas that are under strength. It does not need a genius to work out that fresh faces are still needed given us keeping kj. I would be happy if 3 freebies had the quality to fill the gaps but freebies tend to want higher wages and the club do not seem prepared to breach the wage structure in the current limbo. That leaves us apparently unwilling to pay transfer fees at an inflated time and unwilling to pay wages to tempt freebies. Not a hopeful or helpful position

I accept that Jackett is being held back in transfer funds and in particular wages. But surely there is enough in the pot for him and Thelwell to be able to strengthen the squad sufficiently enough. Rowett down at Blues is a great example of exactly that.

Oh come on. That season was a clusterfuck of epic proportions, combined with a ridiculously high point total to stay up. Which was 54 - a record that equates to your "at least 17 points" so that is obviously a load of shit as well. Average is about 50. We will easily get to that total.

If you think we are finishing below at least three of Bolton, MK Dons, Bristol City, Rotherham and Charlton then you need your bumps felt. And then there are Leeds, Huddersfield, Blackburn, Fulham, Reading, QPR, Preston, Forest, and Brentford in the way as well. IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Nobody knows who is responsible for signing the players. The head of recruitment, John Marshall. The head of recruitment and development, Kevin Thelwell, or Kenny Jackett. What is clear, is that something isn't working.
I don't agree with saying this season is finished, as we are not going to get promoted or relegated, so we don't need to sign players. That will be music to Moxey's ears. Surely you should have players lined up, when you sell a player and are short of players in that position.
We have enough staff getting paid to do this job, that is if Morgan and Moxey are allowing the staff to buy decent replacements.

With the current squad as it stands combined with KJ clearly insisting on the coward football dross on show we need to be very, very thankful we are fortunately on 37.

We are going to be fine. It will be shit, but there is no way we are going down. Mid table utter boredom is the only dish on the menu, with a side of ennui.

As an aside, Rotherham are fourth bottom. To get to my point of 50 points they need 26 points from 19 games. That is asking a lot.

I hope you're right. I repeat. We have just lost graham, sold adobe and been docked by bang average Cardiff. Three home wins all season. If we want to ensure safety the squad must be improved .
We have lost to Bolton bristol Leeds QPR and Brentford and failed to beat forest Preston and Mk Dons and fluked a win over reading.4 of this years 10 wins have come against Charlton and Fulham. Much as I would like to play them every week we can't. Our home record in our relegation year at this time was 4-5-5 17 for 20 against. Better than our current one. Without improvements we should keep a few fingers crossed for a while yet.

It just doesn't. Rotherham aren't going to suddenly churn out play off form. Neither are the bottom three. It just isn't going to happen at all.

We got very lucky that we got those points over Christmas. We played some of the worst football I have ever seen and got three wins. Then we beat Fulham in a bit of a cripple fight (but we did play some reasonable football at times). By rights we should be in a relegation fight, we aren't though, there is no way we go down this season even if we spend £0 this window. The bottom of the league is too weak. Charlton have lost 0-11 in their last two games FFS.

Agreed but I don't do complacent. Been there done that got relegated

Oh, and this as well. Ken has been comprehensively schooled by Russell Slade this season in every aspect and there is a League One manager if you ever wanted to see one.

Without Sako, Afobe, Stearman, Dicko( injury) we are lucky to be where we are. You can't keep buying from lower leagues and hoping you are going to get a top player, who you can sell when the price is good. You have to have a decent recruitment team, who buy players in the positions you need and are going to help us get promoted.

Do you trust the powers that be at Wolves, to bring a decent replacement for Jackett to Wolves?

Not especially, but on the basis of this season there aren't many worse out there. Bar obvious jokeshop candidates like Saunders, Ince, Pearce etc. He has been appalling this season.

It's all depressing as fuck really isn't it.

We will be safe by default because there is some absolute dross toward the foot of the division. We will bore our way to a pitifully low total of points and the last weeks of the season will be drudgery of meaningless matches.

Yep - definitely celebratory wank time.

I'm hoping we don't blow money this window because it won't do a bit of good. Let's just ride out a disappointing second half of the season, scrape together enough wins to keep us out of the relegation heap, and hope that Jackett and Thelwell are fucked off at the end of it.
Then I pray that Afobe money comes available for a new manager to spend on a few pieces.

Just on Micks transfer record, I seem to remember some real dross sometimes for big money. Kennys recruitment is equally hit and miss but not necessarily a reason to close the purse strings. I do wonder if some of the failures in the last couple of years are due to our apparently low transfer/wage budget. Our 1st team squad is desperately thin on the ground, we really need a couple of signings.

I usually stay off this thread, because over here, i'm out of touch and haven't got a clue, but is anyone seriously suggesting we give the current heirarchy at wolves 30 million to spend?

jeez wait until i am totally soaked with cypro and give it me, you'll get a far better return.

At the moment with so many newly purchased players , not playing, or out, or going out on loan, I wouldn't, as I said yesterday, sanction the money for the current mob to make the phone calls re a signing, let alone actually sign anyone.

Right now we couldn't sign a hotel bill. Keep the money, sort out the shite up top, get a new owner and then start again.

Until we get a new owner we are all living in cloud cuckoo land, we won't do anything serious, including going for the top six with the players we have now, until a new owner comes in and kicks some ass.

Thank fuck for that, I say, because up to now, we couldn't win a raffle, if we bought all the tickets.

30 million? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha etc etc
