Winter Improvement Thread (aka Winter Squad Weakening Thread and TWF Suicide Watch)

Who mentioned £30m?

Somewhere earlier in the thread, but this thread is so much fantasy/guesswork i simply cannot be arsed to to back.

Anyway sir Walsall, is that the best you can contribute to a thread that is totally born of imagination and no fact? must try harder.

Just on Micks transfer record, I seem to remember some real dross sometimes for big money. Kennys recruitment is equally hit and miss but not necessarily a reason to close the purse strings. I do wonder if some of the failures in the last couple of years are due to our apparently low transfer/wage budget. Our 1st team squad is desperately thin on the ground, we really need a couple of signings.

Mick's transfer record was fine until promotion. He became much more hit and miss with the bigger budget. At Championship level he was a pretty shrewd spender of dosh.

Music to Moxey's and Morgan's ears

So what do you want us to do? Splash cash with the current set up? Can't wait for the 4,356th ineffectual beige central midfielder to pitch up and sit on the bench while Dave Edwards acts like a dog chasing a balloon*.

If we can't trust the club to find a decent manager or decent recruitment team, to bring in decent players. Maybe the people who should be replaced are Moxey and Morgan. They are the people who keep making monumental mistakes, in employing the wrong people.

As we are finding out..you can't just replace Morgan.

Yes let's get a new owner. Off the shelf.

You can't replace Morgan. Only he can. He owns the club lock stock and barrel.

I wouldn't be averse to replacing Moxey. I don't mind him but his race is definitely run after 15 years in post.

All of which won't happen this side of a new owner I suspect. And also won't change the abilities of the recruitment team and manager, in whom I have virtually zero faith.

I really wouldn't want to trust the current recruitment staff with a big budget. They have blown a lot of cash on a lot of gash, and their hits (although usually stellar) are far too few and far between.

Maybe you are right, but as everyone knows, promotion hopefuls, or "as we are" merchants, nothing will happen until the club has a new owner.

Nobody wants to shit the bed before the new nanny arrives, and that goes for players and the prawn cracker brigade.

It's all depressing as fuck really isn't it.

Think we've just found this seasons slogan.

Its a non season, and the more so disappointing because of

how we were so close at the end last season to sneaking into the Play offs
how we seem to be our own worst enemies through some bat shit tactics,
how the club being up for, in all likely hood, a long protracted sale
how the the uncertainty regarding the club ownership means that transfer funds are under greater scrutiny
how we have lost key players and the manner of their sale, in some cases
how the only players who have looked promising have either been injured (or loaned out/not played)

All with some of the worst football in a few seasons. JHC I've just depressed myself here.

Reasons to be cheerful 1,2,3..

Yeah depressing it is. You look at all those things and apart from the sale which the club can't really do a lot about unless someone shows genuine interest then all of the other could have been either built upon or improved upon. It just underlines what a mess this season is and as you say a non season, 9 months of nothing but shite.

Well, the powers that be, should have made a decision to get rid of the people who aren't recruiting the right players, before they sold our decent players?
You can't sell your decent players, then say we shouldn't buy replacements because the recruitment team aren't up to it.

It is sad as there was genuine improvement last season especially after Xmas. Now we're just drifting and it unsettles not only the fans but the players too.

Micks Championship record included a good few failures - Steve Elliot, Freddy etc.
In fairness he did better when he had less to see d. In the Premiership I think he was in Kennys position now, being unable to compete for better players so hoping those with some sort of flaw would be good enough.

I think that is a very fair comparison. I think they both hit a transfer level and beyond that they struggle suddenly. For Kenny that level appears to be getting a team out of league 1 that can challenge in the first season but then a complete lack of ideas how to sustain that challenge in the Championship. For Mick the level is getting promoted from the Championship and a valiant and occasionally successful relegation battle in the top flight. As soon as you need something beyond 15th to 17th and remotely resembling consolidation then Mick is beyond his limit.

I do find it difficult to blame Jackett solely for the poor transfer policy we seem to be executing at Wolves. No one really seems to know who really has the final say or how players are identified. I hold Jackett responsible to crazy ass selections and poor game management, but not all the transfer issues.

There could well be a power struggle between the recruitment team and Jackett. There is something very wrong with the club at the moment. It is strange how so many signings don't get a decent run, or are loaned out.

The club has been setting low standards across the board from owner and CEO to recruitment coach and playing staff and even then failed to meet those low standards. It is really unfair on the fans. So many false dawns. The gap between where fans want the club to be and where the club seems to be in reality is growing. A complete rethink required. Takes time. Many of us don't have that patience again.

Wolves need some fit players to get us to the end of the season!

From KJs comments (and to an extent Dave Edwards) I think the board are not backing any form of investment. I appreciate there are difficulties in signing players during January, but is is possible (see Afobe, Dicko - neither were overly priced and both came in january).
