Trump

Serious question
Do Presidential candidates have to take any psychological tests before they offer themselves for public office. Trump just seems temperamentally challenged.

Not to my knowledge, no. Ideally you would hope that someone so obviously defunct would not be able to win votes in the first place, so that issue theoretically handles itself.

Of course, we know better now.

Looking long term, I think this may turn out to be a positive result. Every current that led to Trump's administration is now blaring its cacophony for all to see and hear.

There's no more ignoring the issues in this country. They have violently, undeniably slapped America across the face. There is no more hiding to be done. Trump's presidency may well serve to finally exorcise the demons that have infested this so-called "Free country" for far too long.

Sanders, Warren, and their ilk will now be sharpening their blades. From this sort of incredible regression comes the anger that sparks true change.

Once Trump fills the Supreme Court, Roe vs. Wade is overturned, equal rights quashed, torture legalised etc etc. it's going to take decades to fix. Nothing positive about this result at all. Massive failing of the DNC to field a qualified but extremely divisive candidate with Clinton. Add withdrawal from the Paris accords, withdrawal from the WTO, withdrawal from Nato. That#s one hell of a shit sandwich the US is going to have to eat, it'll be a struggle to get rid of the aftertaste

Trump's 1st act will make it legal to marry your daughter...

Talking about reaping what you sow....

Seriously? Regardless of your views on Trump he is elected. Unlike Theresa May he has a mandate. So lets see what he delivers. He is the first presidnt in our lifetimes to have a republican mandate across all houses. He has been given a golden ticket. With his ego he will choose greatness over imfamy. He could just about turn out to be the best worst decision anyone ever made. Give him chance

He knows he is a one termer. His tax proposals will cause damage to the American economy that will take decades to fix. And that is before we get to foreign policy and all those nice proposals he has for minorities within his own populace.

I have no intention of giving him any chance whatsoever.

What do you mean seriously, the fucking orange asshole joked about fucking his own daughter, he deserves every stick of shit thrown at thim.

As he appears a touch unhinged at times will he last a year before he does something that gets him impeached (though looking at his VP not sure that that helps much)

The overiding facial comparison to him that I have is that of Mussolini (and we know how that panned out)

I suspect you didn't read the link.
The Waterford Whisperer is bunch of loons who frequently publish 'could that be nearly true?' stuff. this one's not bad...

I get that he may not be a particularly nice human being. I dont know him. I have never met him. I have watched his progress and 60 million americans want him to make a difference. ok 60 million also wanted Hillary but thats their system for you. I wouldnt have got excited if Clinton had been elected my message would have been the same. Lets see what she delivers. The resounding message is they did not want more of the same. Its too much too soon for some states. They are no where near as diversity aware as we are here. I would put them early 1990's in many ares at best. Stand walk run. America is at stand. Lets see if Trump can help them walk. Then maybe in our lifetimes the western world can run together with real freedom and equality not this fucking lip service so prevalent. The EU is also watching with interest.

Agreed, this board does so love its drama and hyperbole. As you get older you see that things rarely turn out as dramatically as they seem the morning after events happen. Trump will have a lot of advisors to keep him on track, and actually he's in democratically so deserves his opportunity - only time will tell if he does ok or not.

His advisors being from the republican party, right?

I kinda agree in that hes not going to start deporting Muslims, and the wall is unlikely.

But hell probably rip up the Paris deal on climate change.
The US supreme court will become conservative leaning, so abortion will be criminalised
His commitment to NATO is weak, so the Baltic states will be feeling pretty nervous.

Oh, and sexually assaulting women is no barrier to becoming US President. Great.

Well yes, advisors from his party, who millions of people voted for - it's the same as tories ans Labour over here - most of the people from whichever side gets in are well intentioned intelligent people who will do their best for their country. The side you didn't vote for will probably persue some policies you personally don't like, but a lot of other people do. Then four/five years later those policies are judged and either carry on or the other lot get in and the balance goes the other way.

The world doesn't end, good and bad stuff still happens.

Trump won't abandon NATO but will pressure the European states to up their defence budgets so America doesn't feel it's carrying everyone else. He won't outlaw abortions either. He won't build a wall. He won't be perfect and will probably introduce an equally crap alternative to obamacare, and some other stuff some people won't agree with, but every government in history has done that anyway and the world will generally carry on spinning.

Life's too short for throwing a paddy every time something goes differently to how you'd like. Wait and see what happens and then judge - there's buggerall you can do about the American election anyway.

Maybe I'm too old, just seems like a massive overreaction.

Spot on. Me too.

A lot of Democrats are now coming out and saying that Bernie Sanders would have beaten Donald Trump. Which begs the question, why didn't Sanders get the Democratic ticket?

The party colluded against him. We've known that for a while.
