Trump

Do you think that in a few generations time, our grandkids/great grandkids are going to look back at our generation and think 'you complete and utter cunts'?

No, because I print out all my posts on here and keep them in a scrapbook as evidence. ;) Mind you, the way things are going, that might prove to be dangerous.

The only heartening thing I can see at the moment is that young people seem to favour a more progressive view. My two teenagers have been quite engaged in both Brexit and Trumptasia and have been quite coherent in their arguments. Obviously by "coherent", I mean "see things the way I do".

Racism, homophobia, sexism etc seem a complete anathema to a lot of kids today so lets hope they retain that worldview and vote accordingly when they can.

So what is Trump's cabinet going to look like? Guiliani for Attorney general is nailed on (boak), and I'm sure I saw Gingrich had been promised one role or another.

This is the only glimmer of hope for American progressives IMO. Trump is going to surround himself with detestable cunts, things are going to get worse for the people who voted for him and in 2 years there's going to be a chance for more guys like Sanders and Warren to get into power.

Depends which 'kids' you speak to. Trust me, my generation are far from blameless in all this mess.

My kids should be alright. They're home educated so we can just brainwash them with our own left wing agenda :) Plus, as a member of the Green Party, hopefully they won't think I'm too much of a cunt (well, maybe when I start embarrassing them in front of their friends they might, but that's a separate issue).

Don't worry, mate, one day our quinoa sandals will be cool!

Newton would have been his first choice as VP if he wasn't advised that he needed an even more conservative GOP safe pair of hands to carry the traditional Republican vote. Pence got the gig as he loves god and hates everyone else more.

You're parents. Therefore, at some point they'll definitely think you're a cunt.

Doesn't mean they won't love you, or realise you were right in later life though.

No sir. The unwanted bi product of these results will undoubtably a widening in the gap between the haves and have nots and those in the middle less empowered or with less desire to show charity or offer help. The world has become more selfish. Clever politicians should be asking why and addressing the issues very quickly

I still see enough people who are not selfish, who do care about their neighbours and their community and aren't riddled with hate and suspicion to be optimistic.

The division of Brexit, the rise of right wing politics, austerity and now Trump only serves to remind me how important it is that we don't rely on politicians to be clever...

Somebody mentioned Sanders earlier...personally I think he would be too old in 2020 to go again but the Democrats are in a bit of a quandary now. They banked everything on not being Trump and it turns out being Trump wins. Alanis Morrisette would probably find that ironic don't you think.

America friends and frightened immigrants currently holed up on the border of Canada - is there a successor to Bernie in the wings? Here, I would love Corbyn to be gone and Clive Lewis leading the Labour Party but left populist candidates in the US have been marginalised in the last 20 years or so.

Michelle Obama has been mooted being as parts of America are still fixated by succession politics.

World leaders or country leaders don't give a fuck about you.
Look at the Tories in the UK, cutting benefits and services and almost revelling in it. And people over there seem surprised! You reap what you sow.

I know! And before Brexit, we had our pantomime, where we didn't like how we were being governed, so we voted them out, only to find that 6 months later the most twisted and corrupt of them all is still leading the fucking country.

Yep Rob, you're right, we will indeed reap what we sow!
R.I.P. America.

Looking long term, I think this may turn out to be a positive result. Every current that led to Trump's administration is now blaring its cacophony for all to see and hear.

There's no more ignoring the issues in this country. They have violently, undeniably slapped America across the face. There is no more hiding to be done. Trump's presidency may well serve to finally exorcise the demons that have infested this so-called "Free country" for far too long.

Sanders, Warren, and their ilk will now be sharpening their blades. From this sort of incredible regression comes the anger that sparks true change.
