trump does *not* appeal to the majority of americans. he's never had approval ratings above 50% and he lost the majority vote.

that doesn't mean large portions of the population don't love him, and not being favored by the majority obviously hasn't hampered his ability to be elected. but he isn't successful because he reflects the 'majority' of the country

Problem is that I think Trump actually DOES appeal to the majority of Americans. We just had brushed them under the rug for a couple of decades.

Remember conservatives in this country hold Ronald Reagan next to Jesus. Trump is Reagan all over again politically, he's just way more belligerent about it. And so ultimately it pushes moderate conservatives toward Donald and things are compounded because Donald's rhetoric pushes liberals further left.

Basically, I'm not sure anyone can stop the Trump train.

Trump is like Reagan but is terribly uncouth and proud of being classless. He's unlike Reagan in that he is definitely in charge, whereas Reagan was a puppet. On your point about not knowing if anyone can stop Trump, let me say that if the Democrats cannot defeat the GOP and win the House in two weeks time, then I think we (I wish I could delimit it to Americans but his narcissistic "policies" affect the whole world) are destined for another six years of crude and unsophisticated chaos, at the end of which America will be in major decline as a world power.

A decade ago 14 percent of Americans described themselves as atheists, today it is 26 percent. Over time this will only increase and the tired Bible belt (not exclusively) Republican rhetoric will become less relevant. At the moment Trump has the banjo playing Godsquad eating out of his hand. That said all his current rallies are in open goal territory, Montana, Nebraska etc. Let's see what happens when it comes to the dozen or so States which really matter

Depends where. There's as likely to be a high turnout from his base after his constant caravan of unlove shite. High turnout in the big cities would be good for the Dems by and large.
