Traore the enigma

This is becoming a tedious thread

Is he of of benefit- at times (in particular circumstances then yes) - though a lot of the time he is on he does nothing that really helps.

The true definition of a marmite player.

Not really fussed that he was our highest transfer fee - if we want to stay at this level then £18 m is not that big a deal - was he worth that, probably not though until he started none of us knew exactly what he could bring to the table

There will be incomings in Jan - whether he features much after then is open to question.

Don't read it if you think it's tedious.

And why contribute to a thread if you think it's tedious. An odd thing to do.

Just because I think it's tedious doesn't mean that I am not going to read it - someone, might come up with some insight at some point - So far no one has really. As to contributing then the rest of my thread did (even if only a little) & I've not posted on here often anyway.

Costa was outstanding in those days. I think his injury has ruined him unfortunately.

Yes, yes he was. But he was doing it in a side that were cack. So it suggests that Costa was up there (at least) with what Traore is doing now. I have to say, they both need to REALLY REALLY find their mojo. So does Jota. And then I think we might start motoring.

I have said it quite a few times. And over multiple threads. Our issue is that ALL of our wider options are under-performing.

What Traore got or not in those mins in that fucking awful Boro team compared to our team walking the league is not completely fair..put costa in that team and get more points then

They finished 5th in the league and he was their primary attacking outlet though. Nor were they "fucking awful" - Boro were the favourites to win the league at the start of the season. Their manager is poor though and their style of play is crap I agree.

As I said I compared Costa in 16/17 when we were crap and he was our primary attacking outlet. This is a similar situation to Traore except Costa was playing in the vastly weaker team (just look at how impotent our strikers were FFS, not to mention Edwards at #10). Costa's minutes are similar and his stats are overall better - in a worse team.

As an extra I took a look at how Cav did in 16/17 with Traore. He played 810 minutes less, exactly 9 games (11 less starts). In that time he got 5 goals, 5 assists vs Traore's 5 goals, 10 assists. Again, considering the difference in quality between the two sides (15th v 5th) it's just not all that impressive.

agree with all that.

Yeah. When I said about every verdict thread derailing in to an ‘Adama Traore debate’, I didn’t realise that would result in a separate thread for the purpose of slagging off one of our own players.

It’s a bit weird, if I’m honest.

Well we've got a thread where we find as much fault as possible with every goal we concede so why are you surprised....?

But anyway, as I'm here - Adama Traore is without doubt the strangest player I've ever seen in a Wolves shirt. Forrest Gump on a FIFA game with the controller unplugged. Exciting when he's running into space, downright baffling pretty much every other time. I don't even know if I like him as a player or not because of the way he looks like a world class forward one moment, then the lame lovechild of Steve Corica the next.

Whats the difference between signing Adama Traore and Usain Bolt, answer very little.

Literally typed this before you but choose not to post. Completely agree

Worth another bump now we've had a fair few fixtures and he's played in a couple of different positions.

He tries, but he doesn't have anywhere near enough footballing ability to play that central role, where he needs to hold the ball up then look up and find a pass. The times when he drops deep and has space to turn and run he looks good, but again his end product is too variable. He'll win you the occasional goal and points but the inconsistency kills you in this division.

As an impact player at the IF position he's better and can be explosive against tired legs, but we should be expecting more from him.

He was an expensive gamble which I don't think is going to ultimately pay off for us. He'll eventually go back to the Championship IMO. Either in the summer or the January after after we've bought other players in, and he isn't getting any game time.

He’s not a striker though - it says a lot that he’s being asked to play in that position ahead of Leo. I’d expect us to sign a striker in January, and he can get back to playing on the wing.

His only impact is off the bench.

Seeing how well Raul and Jota seem to be combining today shows the value of being on similar wavelength. I think you need to install a sky dish onto Traore to get him on the same wavelength as the rest.

I thought he actually played ok up till we scored, then he returned to his usual frustrating self......tbf the whole team seemed to turn to shit about 5 minutes after we took the lead, then started to dominate after the subs

I doubt he's going to magically acquire a first touch from somewhere and he isn't disciplined enough (or productive enough) to do what we want in any of the front three positions.

I'd move on from him ASAP. I can see why we gave it a go (even though I didn't want him) but it's wishful thinking to imagine we can turn him into anything different.

He seems to consistently make the wrong decision. All the pace, no intelligence.

His speed is negated though but his inability to be relied on by the other players. His movement from that position isn't good neither. Has all that speed but never seems to use it intelligently. It's not a surprise to me to see he has ended up out wide in his career as putting him near the touchline helps to narrow down the decisions he needs to make himself as it closes the outside off from his consideration.

He occasionally does his close control drag bag and turn which makes me think he has something, but then too frequently he fails to extert any sort of control over the ball. Compare Jota's dribble today to create the winner. He looked to have the ball under his mastery at all times regardless of players moving towards him. I said at the time I was wary and thought it was arrogant of some of our fans who werre throwing around 'just think how Nuno can improve him' given his academy upbringing.

Hate to write off a Wolves player but I dont think he's ever gonna be good enough however hard he tries (which I believe he does)
We don't need impact subs we need players who possess the ability to do things now to make a difference now.
