To Hwang or not to Hwang? That is the question

He's probably not good enough at the key skills needed for the PL and certainly not for a top half team. He's a great finisher (with both feet) and a hard worker, but that's not enough at this level (ask any number of strikers who tear up the championship and are then anonymous in the PL). I say let's leave it for now and see how he gets on. The injury obviously doesn't help him in that respect.

It's all a bit Dave Edwards to me.

Went on a good scoring run at the start but now he is incredibly average. Lots of effort but offers no threat at all these days. Complete passenger in some games.

I wouldn't sign him currently and unless he improves would not in the summer either.

Well we can’t rightly go on keeping players who aren’t up snuff? It’s all well and good to point at Vitinha or Jota but for each of them there is a Bright or a Vinagre.

If we were in a position where we can throw £14m at it for a decent squad player I’d have no problem with signing him. Versatile forward which is what we’ve lacked since selling Diogo.

Not really as bright was an absolute waster. I never really thought vinagre was upto much, did have a really nice step over which he used 280 times a match and not much else.

The point I was making is you need to weigh up if it's likely you are going to regret the decision, especially with younger players who will undoubtedly improve. In the case of Vitinha and jota we are or will be. I believe we will with Trincao aswell, he's obviously immensely talented but just hasn't fully adapted to the game in England yet, a tale as old as time for young foreign players. Two of the best players in the world came over here when they were young and we're both sold prematurely by their club and I'm sure it's something they wish they hadn't done.

Equally, Serge Gnabry isn’t the same player today if West Brom decide to buy him and he never ends up at Bayern.

A change of scenery can spur that growth in a player. It doesn’t do anyone any good to second guess that stuff if the result is maintaining players the club doesn’t think are good enough just in case they are some day.

Transfers out are as much a risk as transfers in and I doubt any club in the world isn’t aware of that.

With Trincão at least he can put the muscle on. When Hwang arrived he was billed as a tenacious, powerful runner, problem is that in the Premier League everyone is tenacious and powerful so if that's one of your main attributes then you can look ordinary very quickly.

Trincão has technical abilities which can't be taught and I'd be far slower to write him off as you can excuse his poor form as just adapting to English football.

Young players often need a run of games and it’s harder for them to get that in the PL than some other leagues. Would Vitinha have progressed as much if he was still here? I think Trincao will go on to be a very good player but unless he improves massively in the second half of the season it won’t be at Wolves. Hwang is much older and will never be more than a squad player in a top half PL team so I’d rather we spend the £14m elsewhere.

West brom weren't ever going to get Gnabry on a permanent deal so it's a bit of a pointless comparison. Arsenal wanted to keep him but he was running his contract down.

Some people just aren't suited or never take to particular leagues, in some cases there just isn't the scope to adapt.

I’m finding the “spend £14m on as a squad option” a little strange. Would we not be better off spending that on someone who isn’t a squad option? And that’s before we get to the decent bit, which he isn’t in the slightest IMO.

We’ve spent 3 years spending money not really improving the first XI. Why do that again?

I'm not saying he's Messi or anything but I'm not sure I understand what people mean when they say Hwang has "poor technique". Could someone enlighten me there? Must be something I don't even know to look for.

My bug bear is he's very loose in possession, the pass to Villa that led to their second has happened numerous times without consequences for the most part. Frustrating thing is he's probably pressed the ball well to win/assist winning it back then gifts possession back.
