The wolves Way

Long winded opinion piece.

That is fine if you believe that but you are comparing apples and pears. You cannot possibly know what we would offer as the TV money has changed since we were in the PL. Our Cat1 academy is second division in comparison to the top level academies so in effect we are producing players which will get in our team but have no chance of getting in the top teams. So who are you selling these players to?

Chelsea probably spend as much as Wolves spend on the first team squad on their Academy intakes each year. Buying the best young global talents ain't cheap.

Who said anything about selling? We are producing players to play for us and bearing in mind we were in the prem in 2012 I cant see us suddenly spening 65 k a week after 3 years can you?

The TV deal changed that and unless your Morgan then you can't know that. Good wind up though.

Indeed, not all of them will play for the first team and those big clubs treat their academies as generating 1-2 players and then making money from the rest.

Wind up? so you want us to end up with huge debts do you?
That would be a yes then. I thought so yesterday, but let it slide. Next time try to use the term foreign mercenaries a little less it's a dead giveaway. Actually been a decent debate though.

Can you imagine Real Madrid fans saying " We don't want any foreign mercenaries "

I trust the people who have been given the responsibility to take us on to the next level, Thelwell has been put in charge of recruits and he has agreed with Moxey/Morgan that these players need as originally stated to adopt the wolves way. We don't want to go down a path which may jeopardise finances and if it means losing out on higher paid players to rivals so be it. Although we have a glorious history, the sad fact is we aren't a big hitter anymore compared with days gone by and the way we are run means we will always struggle to compete with wages demands etc. The club has navigated an academy approach accompanied by value investments for the future which may not produce short term results but will certainly benefit us in the long run and as said previously I'd prefer to see local talent get its opportunity rather than overpaid mercenaries that are evident at most premier league clubs these days. Look at the progress we have made from 2 years ago, winning the title in 2014 and a decent season last season illustrating the improvements we have made in a relatively short period of time. I don't watch premier league football either and have little interest in it so for me personally as long as we are seeing signs of progress on the field at off it with academy improvements etc then I'm happy to enjoy championship football rather than pay a small fortune to watch us get beat at united ,c ity every week. We're going about things the right way, the wolves way as our board have said which I fully support and am confident we will see more young promising players join us who can maximise their value at wolves helping us achieve our goals and like most clubs sell on for a decent profit reinvesting the money in the academy /team etc.

If all you want to see is local lads giving it their all and saving yourself a bit of money then why not support Bilston?

Apparently, last years U18s and the ones coming through are the best we've had in years, so will be interesting to see how good these lads are in a few years time.

Looking at what Crystal Palace and Swansea have/are spending on wages, maybe it's those that set out our business plan that need to change?

I hope the young lads are good enough, it seems the previous regime did a pretty poor job of bringing players through.

I'd hope those that are currently putting Wolves business plan into action review it at least yearly and adjust. This is only my personal view but I don't think our current CEO is able to change tack. If I was Morgan I would change Moxey for a more dynamic CEO.

Yep, and me.

Ultimately I want Wolves in the top league. In my dreams I want them up there challenging for the title but reality means that with all the money in football these days winning the league will be shared by about 6 clubs max the rest will be also rans. What I do not want to be is premier league whipping boys or a yoyo team like QPR Hull or Burnley. I would rather stay a bit longer in the championship and build an ethos that will serve us for a generation of premier league football without the constant battle for survival. Stoke West Ham,and WBA are good current models for that being possible. 2011-2013 were bloody awful and I dont want that to be repeated so the young and hungry player ethos is the right one for now. I worry about the quality at premier league level that matches that ethos and our budget. I will worry about it however when we get there. Until then young and hungry without bankrupting us suits me fine. In the next 10 years if we get up to the prem and have a few seasons mid table, a good cup run or even a cup win that that will keep me more than happy especially if there are players from the current squad who stay with us and make that happen

Ferguson used an outstanding crop of youth players as the foundation for years of success. If, and it’s a big if, we can bring through 5 good enough for the first team we might be able to use it as a springboard to getting to the PL despite having to compete with teams with huge parachute payments. If Morgan doesn’t want to splash the cash, which appears to be the case, it’s our best hope. Indeed it is probably our only hope unless we get wealthy owners.

There's no reason we cant do what Man utd did albeit it on a smaller scale with youth. Like others I've heard good things about the under 18s but these players need the time to develop instead of fans demanding instant success with no long term perspective. If in 3-5 seasons these kids aren't up to it and we aren't seeing signs of progress then by all means moan about it but until then lets get behind Jackett and Thelwell to bring the right players in ideally young and hungry with a point to prove instead of heartless players like Johnson who along with the rest of the bomb squad took the club to financial struggle with their obscene wages.
