Far easier to replace players at Championship level than Premier League level.

Exactly, so the other players are ageing and have less value, so replacing them won't be so easy.

Like I say, I'd be more than happy to do a Swansea, but that's not the norm.

I don't think it is easier at all, we cannot replace Sako now and if we didn't go up this season we'd be very unlikely to be able to replace Afobe properly.

But that was what you were saying we should do earlier in the thread? Just a level lower so we have even less chance of pulling it off.

They've only really lost Vorm and Bony since they went up who were key players. The former was replaced by a free transfer.

Edit: Davies too thinking about it but they got Sigurdsson back and ended up better off.
Bony himself acted as a replacement for Michu for the most part, they didn't play many games together from my memory. Michu himself was a replacement for Graham too who'd been very important in their first season.

They do seem to have an uncanny knack for replacing key players at Swansea.

Davies came in for injured Taylor then the roles reversed when Davies bailed. Graham>Michu>Bony, Britton was crucial but now he's marginalised by the likes of Ki.

People say it's unsustainable but they've managed it through 3 mangers now at the top level and keep improving for the most part too. All that without some billionaire sugar daddy bloating them well beyond their means.

I still don't get the i want to stay in the Championship bollocks and win a few more games. Surely if you support Wolves you want them to be the best they can be which means being in the Premier league, if that means winning less then so be it. Like has been pointed out it is possible to be a stable Premier League side like Stoke and Swansea and surely everyone would rather be watching the players DW mentioned like Bojan and Sigurdsson.

I think it depends what you get out of football. I watch very little football other than Wolves. I'm not really interested in watching Messi, Ronaldo, etc.

I go to watch Wolves win and want to see them have the ball the majority of the time and having shots on goal, not sitting defending for 80 minutes.

Likewise bigger clubs than Swansea and Stoke for example Newcastle and Sunderland could so easily have been relegated while signing high priced players on very high wages.

It's all about the mentality. Of course playing at a higher level against quality teams means you'll have less of the ball and fewer chances but there's no need for it to be backs to the wall, loser mentality like McCarthy served up.

Of course it's a struggle to start with but then little by little you start bringing in better players and hopefully start to improve.

The likes of Wigan and Wimbledon proved it is possible to get there, stay there and be relatively successful.

Fair enough but surely that defeats the object of supporting a football team. You don't want them to be the best they can be and yet you go to see them win. If they win every game next year they will get promoted so at some point because you don't want that you are going to want them to lose aren't you?

Sunderland yes but Newcastle were nowhere near relegation until Pardew left and they appointed Carver. Sunderland just show that it matters who you buy when you go up and it's very important that you spend wisely. Even if Newcastle were in the same boat it still doesn't stop me wanting Wolves to get promoted and be the best they can be, not so i can watch Ageuro etc because i've seen them play lots of times but to see Wolves test themselves against better players and have better players pulling on the gold shirt. I want Wolves to have ambition and not to settle for we'll stay in this shit league because we win a few more games.

I think the best example for Wolves is Everton. In terms of finances, Everton is not that much bigger than Wolves except for the TV money and sponsorships.

One key differences in the past is that Everton have a long record of developing youth players and selling them on early. Rooney for example, but he's not the only one. After the recent investments, our academy seems to be starting to produce better players more regularly.

Do you think that Everton fans go to Goodison expecting to see Everton defend for 80% of the time Penk? Surely, Wolves can aspire to get to a similar level? Getting a foothold in the Premier league may be a little painful but wouldn't you prefer Wolves to be more like Everton than Derby, Leeds or Forest?

If we got promoted, I'd probably give it one season and if it's shit, I'd probably turn into an armchair fan with the odd home and away games thrown in.

Last season suited me fine, more wins than losses. That said, I would like to see how Kenny could cope with the PL.

All the talk of Swansea, there wage bill was almost double what ours was when we were in the PL.

Everton have huge debt.

I believe the Premier league finds you out if your not smart in your preparation on and off the field, and the key is getting both right at the same time. You can look at many Premier league clubs and think they are run badly, those are the ones we should be looking to replace. Are we smart enough?

You would miss it too much Penk. I remember you once telling me you enjoyed the day out as much as the result, and fair play to you. While I may not quite agree with you on this, your loyalty to Wolves can only be greatly admired.

Sadly we cant compete with premiership clubs and my idea of fun isn't to be battered by the likes of Swansea, Southampton and Stoke who all have bigger budgets than we have these days. Of course we all want to see Wolves win but that wont happen in the premier league so surely its better to develop our own talent, pay sensible fees/wages rather than turn into the whipping boys of the league again like we were 4 years ago, where is the fun in that? Whether people choose to accept it or not, we are never going to pay the wages of these clubs and as we cant compete on a level playing field isn't it better to go down the road of using our cat 1 academy that these clubs don't have so we can excel in other areas? In the championship we can win matches , in the premier league we would get gobbled up alive. Palace for example have just offered a player 65 k a week which we would never offer and rightly so IMO as its the road to financial ruin as we saw with the OHara, Johnson signings. Give me value for money football in the championship every day of the week instead of overpaid mercenaries earning obscene amounts of cash that many of us will never see in a lifetime never mind a months wages.

Slightly less so over the last couple of seasons as I've been playing pool with my daughter in Riley's. I don't particularly like pool and I don't particularly like Riley's.

Personally I look forward to the day when Wolves can afford to buy players for 10 million and pay 70k a week, not a problem if the clubs run correctly at each level.

I may aswell give up supporting Wolves then because i will never ever want us to just miss out on the play offs every season or get beat in them. That's failure and should never be welcomed in any way, shape or form. With the money that's available these days in the Premier League we would be more than capable of paying better wages and then what matters is having the structure in place to identify players and not players who aren't very good (O'Hara and Johnson).
