Maybe we should buy Gaitan then? He would fit our system...

100% joking as that would be fucking monumentally beyond our abilities just yet.

Honestly, i think Jota might be better than him already. Gaitan is on the way down and i think he would struggle in this league with the physicality. A few years ago he was seen as one of those Benfica players who the top clubs were after but it looks very much like a Mendes moving money signing for Atleti and Benfica now. I think people forget Jota played every game for Porto last year in the Champions league.

I think the Atleti fans are more concerned about their team in general rather than Jota on loan. As you say he's been gone 2 years now and it's very relative as Atleti are a top side and Jota isn't there yet.

Never said i wasn't but there are fans that do take an interest and a few who take more of an interest than i do.

I think that proves my point, the fan base really don't care that much about loan players, they care about how their team does week in week out.

I have no idea what most fan bases think on their particular clubs as I don't follow them, following one club is time consuming enough so quite how you can gauge another club's fan base is a pretty daft thing to do.

For instance, we have one thread on our forum for our loanees and the dark side will pop up every now and again about loanees. Twitter is barely awash with Wolves fans on their loanees so what makes you think Madrid fans are going to know about a player, playing in the second tier of English football, or is going to be on any of their radar?
The internet is a wondrous place, filled with all kinds of people supporting different clubs.

Yeah i would imagine they are. This point was nothing to do with their fans and Jota, more about Gaitan and Jota.

Personally I think Jota could fit as one of Simeone's narrow attacking wingers.

We have a loan thread for the players we have put on loan so those who are interested to keep up to date and I much appreciate that. When a young talented player goes out on loan I take a particular interest to be honest. Like Ennis this year which was unfortunately cut short (or he may be going back there when fit). The Duck currently. And when Zeli went on loan to MCDons (shudder) I was quite excited to see how he got on.

Linked with grabban again today, I don't know much about him other than he needs to sort that beard out!

I thought he looked ok in a pretty thankless role on Saturday. Fairly mobile and his touch was decent...shame no-one in a blue shirt was within 50 yards of him. I'd want better though, even on a short term basis and I believe that both Martin and Oliveira are in at least a bracket higher.

I would imagine that anyone we look to buy is going to be a mile better than championship level, otherwise why bother?

IF we were to sign a Grabban or Martin I guess it's similar to the Leon signing in L1. History of being competent at that level, use them if you need to, bin them off if and when we go up

From what I can glean from forums it seems he scores goals but not much else. I'm not sure he would fit our style - I'm happy to be corrected though

He did a lot of dirty work on Saturday in what was a thankless task, you couldn't say whether it did or didn't demonstrate whether or not he could play Leo's link man role because as Deutsch says nobody was within 50 yds of him for most of the game.

He has to get a certain amount of credit though for scoring goals in a poor Sunderland team

I think it's fair to assume that since Grabban has been in England for a while that if he possessed the speed of thought that Leo does he wouldn't be at Sunderland right now.

Grabban is just a decent Championship striker. Cannot do it in the PL, he's had a couple of attempts at it and struggled to get any gametime, let alone score goals. No shame in that.

So as we progress through January we will have multiple targets...it may be that Grabban is fourth, fifth or lower on that list. But if we can't get who we want (for whatever reason) then he might come into play. Bournemouth would like to recoup some money if they can, he isn't going to play for them and Sunderland can't pay what they'd want. Ultimately if it's a choice on 31 Jan of having Leo and a decent Championship striker to see us through to the end or Leo and no-one, then you're obviously going to take the former.

Grabban is alright, he can't do it at Premier league level though and he's nowhere close to what Leo is. He gets in the area a lot and that would leave us without the link up play that Leo provides so just don't see it. Rather than signing someone short term just purely because we can i'd rather we looked at another system with the same style when we can't break teams down with the players we have and if someone who is capable of stepping up becomes available then we can go in for them.

I think with uncle jorge on our team we won't reach the last day of the window with that choice, but if we do then I guess you take the back up just in case.

Well I suppose a big question the scouting team will be asked/asking is, do we want a second Leo or someone who brings something a bit different?

I'm intrigued by our link to Stefano Okaka Chuka but he's firmly in the latter category. It will be an interesting January.
