The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Drive F1 smoothly. You wouldn't floor the throttle on your road car out of every bend, feed the power in. It helps having a wheel, so is easier to modulate the throttle but I play with all aids off, including traction control , and manual gears. Manual gears help in that you can 'short shift' out of corners to cut down on wheelspin.

I'm not sure what to suggest, do you have the racing lines on? I very rarely touch the throttle mid corner, I'll brake hard and look to carry the momentum through the corner then accelerate out when I've got the car straightened up. When I do bin it, it's mainly because my entry speed is to high and I'll go off line and lose grip. I've got an advantage as I knew virtually all of the tracks before playing the game and know what gear I need to be in at what time.

I've been doing a co-op career with a mate, and he's beating me in qualifying but I'm more consistent in the race and usually end up infront of him.

Even trying to feed the throttle in gently i often get the car just breaking away underneath and spinning out, when you've got the TC on full you can hear it cutting in and i try to use that as a marker for where i can and cant be a bit more aggressive with the throttle but it doesn't really seem to match up, because of how cautious i have to be in the corners without the TC on full there is absolutely no way i can get close to my full TC times. Considering the problems i have with getting a comfortable yet competitive car setup theres no way i can afford to give away so much time, i'll keep giving it spells here and there trying to master it because i'd like to play the game as realistically as possible but i'd like to have some sort of level of competitiveness at the same time.

As for manual gears, there is no way i can give myself that extra burden on my mind with my other problems.

Its really annoying me because after playing GT5 so much through the summer i'd become quite adept at setting up all the details of my car but now on F1 my attempts are nowhere near as successful and despite knowing most of the circuits fairly well, the older ones at least, i find myself getting walked over by pretty much everyone.

Sometimes, such a title is a bit of an exaggeration, but not this one.

That is utterly hilarious, yet at the same time totally shit!

Playing Conquest on BF3 last night I got the MVP Ribbon 3 games in a row! Mainly because I went after the flag captures and put down a load of AT mines. Best was the first of the 3 games where I got in a jeep, drove to the first flag captured it, drove to the second captured it, drove to the third flag and captured it even before the other team had got to their second! I then drove to the first one the other team had captured, thereby capturing all 4 flags within the first couple of minutes of the game beginning! I got lucky, but it was fantastic!

Had a good session on BF3 yesterday, starting to get the hang of things keeping alive and finishing in the dizzy heights of mid-table.

Even managed to take down a couple of Heli's, very satisfying!

Still addicted to FIFA... I have a problem.

I've never taken out a heli yet. What did you use? Fixed AA, tank or a rocket launcher?

Oh, and I can't remember if you said you play on PC, Xbox or PS3? If you're on Xbox feel free to add me so we can join forces in a game, Gamertag is Bills Wolf... It'd be good to play with someone seeing as all my usual playing buddies are lightweights and would rather play kiddies games (aka MW3)...cough...Langdale...cough...:2xGay:

Kiddies games that you're shit at.

You're not missed.

(Actually, I do miss your appalling language...)

If any of you were really any good, you'd play on PC with the adults.

Oh another thing Toon - probably best you don't play MW3 if you hated MW2, because a LOT of the really annoying things are back.

Overall, the weapons are much more balanced, and the grenades are much weaker (a good thing) as are the Twat Guns. BUT - but - the quick scoping has a tendency to drive me absolutely fucking mental. You know how much I hate it - the more I play, the more people seem to 'perfect' it. It does mean I get angry and therefore more determined to hunt down the tossers and get revenge, but I am so, so annoyed that they've brought it back - nay, ENCOURAGED it. Cheap, shite and bloody annoying.

A few glitches with leaderboards etc at the moment as well, but apparently there's another patch on it's way that'll sort that out.

Overall, I think it's definitely better than MW2, but I really don't think it beats Black Ops - purely because of the quick scoping.

I'm definitely glad I settled on BF3 by the sound of it. Did I mention that it is a great game by the way? :run:

I'd probably agree. We wouldn't be able to stand your bitchy whining if you'd have bought MW3.... :2xGay:

I would play on PC if mine wasn't steam powered...

You're either making an amusing pun or simply saying your machine is really old. Do you guys have Steam over there or is that a US only thing?

Once with an RPG, once more with a 'slightly' flukey tank shell, both times on Operation Firestorm.

I'm on Xbox so I'll add you, haZe36 if you want to add me...usually on late, after the gf has given up use of the telly for the night!

To be honest I really wish I was playing this on PC - I spent ~£1k on my PC just to play BF2, I don't play nearly enough these days to justify another upgrade.

The patch for F1 has made it a lot harder! Struggling now.

The bastards, after my little strop i went into P3 in Spain, smashed the downforce on as much as possible, went out and instantly got within a fraction of Sutil's fastest time, after a few similar laps i pitted in, switched to option tyres and smashed the fastest time of the session. Stuck with the same set up through qualifying and got myself 4th on the grid, dropped down quite a bit after pitting earlier than most then got screwed by my controller battery dying just as i was approaching the chicane at the end of the lap, ended up with a drive through for corner cutting after changing the battery but got away with it as most people were pitting around that time. Took a chance on switching back to the option tyres with just over 20 laps to go, clawed my way back upto 4th before taking advantage of Button going slowing after a pit stop, had a good battle with him for 5-6 laps, he nailed me on a few straights but i managed to get back past with in a couple of corners both times. Eventually he tried a silly manouvre down the main straight and lost his front wing, he finished 15th, i crossed the line with both Rosberg and Alonso less than 1/10th behind me as my tyres were destroyed.

Much much happier with the high downforce set up, though it is annoying to have to abuse your KERS like hell just to have a fighting chance on any straight, maybe i'll get comfortable enough to knock the TC down some time soon.

Taking out a heli with an RPG is impressive! Or was it one of the guided ones? I use the RPG for tanks and people in buildings. Operation Firestorm is a good map. The only ones I'm not a big fan of are Tehran Highway and Operation Metro. Seine Crossing, Kharg Island and Caspian Border are fantastic maps.

Just gone off now, so I'll add you tomorrow.
