The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I never touch the main quest until I am about 50 hours in. I did the same in Oblivion (why did you find this detrimental and not play as much - I don't understand?) I know a lot of people who never played the main quest in Oblivion and still clocked up 300 hours!

I believe that in Skyrim, if you do the first 2 or 3 parts of the main quest, the dragons then start to appear. This can be good or bad, depending on your point of view!

I'm 20 hours in and haven't seen a dragon yet. There'll be time enough for that in the future!

Sorry, haven't come across any glass armour yet - mind you, I've only explored one major town so far...and I still haven't finished there yet. This game is massive!!!!!

While I agree Skyrim is big you've played 20 hours already and are still in Riverwood? or Whiterun? You must be playing the game at a snail's pace.

Rightio - here is a list of games I have on my shortlist for Christmas. I can choose two:

Batman: Arkham City. It's on the list as number 1, and will not be shifted. It's a definite. Arkham Asylum is one of the best games ever made, and the sequel is supposed to be bigger, longer, more varied and generally a lot better. So it's got.

Skyrim. The more you guys witter on about it, the more I'm being convinced that I should give it a go. It does look amazing - as I said on a previous page, it was only really the combat that stopped me playing Oblivion. HW telling me that he's spent 20 hours without touching the main quest actually really appeals to me. It sounds like a game where you can fuck around and lose yourself in a fantasy world, With dragons. Now that sounds ace. I am determined to give this a go, and give it the time it requires to experience it properly.

Assassins Creed Revelations. Apparently, it's more of the same which is a little bit disappointing because the first trailer I saw for it looked utterly amazing and a massive improvement graphically. I still want to see how Ezio's story ends, but it could probably wait.

Uncharted 3. I bloody LOVE this series. I've been surprised how little the second game came down in price, so I might hold off this for a while, but I will get it eventually.

FIFA 12. I haven't touched FIFA for ages. I love the series, but my attention has been elsewhere of late. Only a bit concerned that if I skip this one, I'll be a year behind with the new defensive style when I do decide to get an update.

So many games, and so little time/money to get them! At the moment, it looks like Skyrim will be joining Batman.

Skyrim and Batman are definitely on my wish list. Mass Effect 3 is out in March next year; it is possibly my most anticipated game ever! And it has multiplayer! Yowzer!

Yep, read about that. The last game I was this aroused about was probably Streets of Rage 3!

It doesn't look like we'll be seeing each other on Xbox live for a while mate, with you on BF3 and me on MW3 so we should team up again for Mass Effect 3. It's going to be immense.

There's too many games out at the minute.

I'm still playing through BF3 and MW3 single and multi-players, Assassin's Creed Revelations is out already, Harry Potter Lego is out on Friday, plus the new Zelda game is out on Wii too.

Indeed. Though I might gatecrash your Xbox Live Party, just for the chat!

I probably only hit around level 8/9 in oblivion when I stopped, but I was miffed that all those gates were opening and reckoned I should have cleared a few earlier. It was more likely work that stopped me playing I really don't remember. Like you I wouldn't expect to touch main mission until I had a well developed character - eg able to make high level potions etc. So it's good if you're not forced down that route. I'll also want to enchant my own weapons - so will have to be pretty hard to soul trap the nastiest.

How the fuck does anyone do anything on F1 with the traction control set to anything other than 'full' ? Seriously, i spin out on any corner i try to apply any power in, even if its a slight bend that can be taken pretty much flat out, almost guaranteed my car will end up backwards.

I really did want to put some time into F1 this year because i gave up so meekly when i reached Monaco on last years game, i'm fast falling completely out of love with it though, pretty much everywhere i go i struggle to get any sort of balance between a quick car and a car i'm comfortable driving, i occasionally can hook up a quick lap but all too often its in practise rather than qualifying then when it comes to race day everyone except the terrible 3 new teams just drive away from me after a few laps.

That's strange, I've found it much easier to keep the car straight this year. Lots of moments where the car has snapped at me and I've just managed to catch it, but not too many complete spin outs compared to last year where if you've got the back out, 9 times out of 10 you're facing the wrong way.

Is it really every corner, or particular ones? I always set my car up to be nailed to the track (normally around 8/9 front and rear downforce, maxed out at Monaco, Singapore) and balance the car to allow a bit of oversteer to make it easier to hit the apex's.

A bit annoyed my mic wasn't working, I fancied a bit of a chat with you lot tonight! Oh, well! I'll have to see if I can get it working for tomorrow.

We've picked up a couple more people who are on regularly (one of whom is a WOMAN!) but they use language that would make even you blush!

You've lost your crown as Potty Mouth King.

They're quite funny actually, but we've still not had a "f you sniper c" moment yet!

It's very good by the way with the exception of a few shitty games being very laggy, but that's always the case with new games.

I'm sure it's a good game, but wait until the hackers get their hands on it like they did MW2! Seriously though, I'm sure it's good, Black Ops is good too. However, apart from a few minor tweaks and some new maps is it really any different to MW2 or Black Ops? If not I'm not going to shell out 45 notes for a game that I've already got in essence! And nothing I've read about it tells me it's anything more than a £45 expansion pack. Seems a giant waste of money when you could still play Black Ops if you want a CoD fix and spend your money on something new and different...

BF3 offers something that you'll just never get from CoD: tactical team play. Example: I'm playing as an Engineer class so I lay down some anti-tank mines, then I lay up in a spot nearby with an RPG. An enemy tank comes along, drives over the mine and is disabled but not destroyed so I pop up with my launcher ready for the kill, thinking "Sweet victory!" Only the enemy has very cleverly had infantry supporting the tank and as soon as I pop out for my glorious kill I'm shot by at least 2 of the other side...Inglorious death. But a fantastic example of the team tactics that make BF3 utterly brilliant and so much more fun than recycling the CoD games and playing the same way over and over and over again.

The CoD games are slick, fast, gorgeous to look at, fun and shallower than Paris Hilton on a shopping spree...

BF3 is engrossing, detailed, subtle, complex and deeper than Juliette Binoche in an arthouse masterpiece...

Hey another gateshead poster nice :p

i've read the rules and i don't think i'm breaking any rules by posting this.

This might be of interest for players of Fifa 12 (or even if you don't play the game there is questions for you too ;))

I'm a student from sunderland university and i have a questionnaire for football fans focusing on the user experience of Fifa 12.
The idea is to produce a persona of the typical fifa 12 user. If mostly wolves fans complete the questionnaire then i will have to write the persona from the perspective of a wolves fan (sounds like an incentive :p). The website has no ads or anything and entering you email is optional, you can even use your forum alias for the name if you like.

https://sites.google.com/site/fifa12uxd/home/live-questionnaire

that will take you straight to the questionnaire.
It would really help me out and i would really appreciate any help i get.

Thanks in advance.

I've found i can easily spin out on any given corner, the type of corner doesn't seem to make any difference to me, unless i'm insanely over cautious then i'll be facing the wrong way. Take Spain for an example, because thats where i've got to, with TC on full i can hammer the first chicane and the following long right hander pretty much flat out, after some initial breaking on the main straight, when i take TC down to medium i have to break at the end of the straight pretty much coast through the chicane and then even slowly winding the power on through the right hander i will end up spinning out say 7-10 times. There's just no way i will ever match my times from having TC full when i go down to medium because i have to be so ridiculously cautious through every corner, it then stops me from using KERS or DRS as early on straights because i'm not as confident without the car being perfectly straight.

My consistency is just as much of a problem though, if i ever manage to find a car set up where i can smash out 7-8 or laps with similar times then i'll be a couple of seconds off the pace of my team mate, only held off the bottom by the 3 new teams. Then if i try to adjust things to make the car quicker, i end up with a car that i cant drive with anywhere near as much ease then eventually get one fault free lap to set a reasonable time, either way i end up a long way off the pace through either having a car that isn't quick enough or a car i cant drive to its potential. I may yet give up on this years game before even reaching as far as Monaco, last years finishing point, i just get so annoyed with it and have ended many sessions and races with a high speed crash out of sheer frustration.

I've just had the new Zelda posted. I'm like a dog with 2 dicks now....Skyrim, Zelda, Skyrim, Zelda. My heads gonna explode.

Decided what my 2nd game will be for Christmas.

Skyrim.

I'm not a massive gameplayer anymore don't have long sessions anymore but I'm like on level 4 but have around 35 side missions. Its bloody huge is Skyrim.

I have not heard a single bad thing about it and love a bit of dragon infested sword-slashy quasi-medieval castle-type dungeon shit.

Which should really be the title for The Elder Scrolls VI.

I'm not sure what to suggest, do you have the racing lines on? I very rarely touch the throttle mid corner, I'll brake hard and look to carry the momentum through the corner then accelerate out when I've got the car straightened up. When I do bin it, it's mainly because my entry speed is to high and I'll go off line and lose grip. I've got an advantage as I knew virtually all of the tracks before playing the game and know what gear I need to be in at what time.

I've been doing a co-op career with a mate, and he's beating me in qualifying but I'm more consistent in the race and usually end up infront of him.
