The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Starfield reviews are out.
They are good…….very good!
Some aren't.

I tend to wait for IGN's review as they're mainly trustworthy but they only gave it a 7/10.

Then I watched another review which seemed to debunk all the things that worried me about the IGN review!

Ah well - I'm going in when it comes out on Game Pass on Wednesday so I'll make my own mind up then!

Prediction: I'm going to absolutely LOVE it.

I think the general consensus is if you live Skyrim and Bethesda games in general then you’ll love it. If you’re expecting it to divert from what they normally do (other than being in space) then you might be disappointed

I've seen some mixed responses. But I think the consensus seems to be if you're a fan of Bethesda games you'll love it.

"Bethesda's latest sterilizes the Final Frontier"

Ouch.

If I could play it I’m sure I would! Might go back to no man’s sky to get my space fix

The Starfield Metacritic score is currently fluctuating around the high 80s on PC and Xbox. For balance, the game's Opencritic score currently sits at 87, but it's worth noting that that site doesn't split review scores based on platform.

Tomorrow is going to drag - I won't be able to start Starfield until I've finished work. Very very excited now - a friend of mine paid for early access and is hooked. He reckons it's my sort of game and that I'll really enjoy it.

I've also just started reading The Expanse book 6 so I'm in a bit of a sci fi phase at the moment!

I'm a boring gamer these days. Just started playing Call of the Wild - Angler and it's fucking fantastic, find fings, unlock shit oh and of course fish. Very pleasant with 90's glorious indie in the background.

I still play [Old School] Runescape 😂

I still had RuneScape original proper RPG in amongst all my D&D and Pathfinder and Traveller that I sold at the start of the year. Worth a bit in decent condition.

"Starfield: Installing. Completes in about 9 hours, 45 minutes" Ugh. 😫😫

I was smart and pre-installed....

Just played a couple of hours and it feels very familiar, it's got loads of Bethedsa traits!

My copy has downloaded but I now have 4 consecutive 16 hour days at a roadshow in the Metrocentre demonstrating and selling Strong Point so won't get much of a chance to play. My planning is terrible...

Around 4 hours into Starfield, and I'm really pleased that loads of the supposed issues and criticisms that some people have voiced really don't bother me at all - I'm really enjoying it.

The biggest highlight is the feel of the whole thing, the aesthetics are just awesome, particularly in ships, spacestations etc. It's exactly what I was hoping for - a sort of quasi - Expanse/Firefly sort of look.

Combat is decent - much better than previous Bethesda titles, and the story has already piqued my interest. Excellent side characters as well.

The issues which I have found a bit annoying is the lack of map and the clunky UI but neither are particularly groundbreaking. And being able to pick up any old junk (just in case!) is so very reminiscent of Elder Scrolls/Fallout. You never know - I might REALLY need that bowl I found on an abandoned scientific outpost on a barren planet which is worth fuck all.

Only at the very very beginning but so many people have said it gets AMAZING after 12-15 hours. I'm already invested in the whole thing so if it improves further, I'll be very happy playing this for a long time.

I’ve been away from home for a few days to look after my Mum, but my disc is waiting at home and I am ready!
I know (knowing Bethesda) that I will be playing this for years. I can’t wait!

Haven’t had too much chance to play a lot of Starfield yet but I am spending hours on that first planet Kreet.
Still not completed all the surveys. Have been in tons of gun battles and took over a new ship.
I love it!

I've seen a few clips and I have to say, the switch to sci-fi from diet-Tolkien has me more intrigued than I expected. Some of the ship designs are really scratching that dirty, OT Star Wars itch for me.
