The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I love Skyrim still and fucking adored elite back in the day. I think Starfield might suit me.

A few hours into Starfield. Very enjoyable. But I generally don't have a clue what I'm doing! Some elements of it (obviously the space theme, but I don't mean that) I feel have drawn to some extent on Mass Effect, which is no bad thing. I haven't fully grasped the whole surveying and scanning thing that HW has basically spent hours doing by the sound of it! What do you scan, where do you survey? These are things I need to delve into more! As it is I've basically spent a couple of hours helping some dude save a tree. So I've basically been an intergalactic Swampy.

Yeah one of my main gripes is that it isn't very intuitive!

Ship building is the worst. Its mega clunky and there really should be a tutorial for it.

Still - I persevered and amended my ship, renaming her the Molly New

Yeah, I've upgraded a couple of things on my ship, but it's not the easiest system IMO. I've certainly not attempted any modifications other than upgrading the shields and laser weapon.

What I couldn't figure out was how to actually add new things to your ship. Because it never tells you how!

I worked out by clicking on the grid but not on the ship brings up the option to press A to add things.

Far from obvious!!

I would basically never have thought of doing that! 😂

That is the very opposite of intuitive. Come on Bethesda - make the game play easy to engage and let people fly in what you have created! That’s the joy of Skyrim

I just found a big ship on a new planet, killed everyone and took it. Easier than building!

I know I’m way behind the curve here but in BOTW I just conquered the final divine beast and beat Thunderblight Ganon first go. As someone who is a very distinctly average gamer, that’s quite the relief!

Now it’s time to dick around for ages and put off actually fighting the final Ganon.

The other thing that I don't think works all that well are the digipicks. That is unless I'm just missing something about how you use them which is entirely likely! It just seems that sometimes there is no way in which they can possibly work? Then you end up wasting them as you have to undo a previous attempt. Am I just doing it wrong?

They all work somehow. I find them infuriating sometimes, as every time I actually work it out, it seems so incredibly simple!!

In amusing Starfield bug news, my companion Andreja lost her head. Literally. I was being followed by a headless woman.

I think the bug was linked with quick resume though as I restarted and her head had grown back.

Ordered an Anbernic handheld which should be here tmrw. I'll be knee deep in NES/SNES games for a while!

Anyone going to bother with the new Fifa (FC 24)? It's out on 29th, but if you pre-order the ultimate edition you can play it from today.

Not sure I can be arsed to spend £60+ on it if i'm honest. Will be the first one I haven't had in years, but it's been going downhill majorly. Might just stick with the old one as I'm on the cusp of promotion to the PL with Shrewsbury Town in my career mode. Got Boubacar Traore pulling the strings in midfield...

I used to be a big gamer but my PS5 has been a waste of money, really. My personal opinion, of course, but the original titles that have been released are few and far between. Everything is a remake or a re-release. Pretty abysmal stuff, really. I can't remember the last time I genuinely got excited by a new game being released.

Yeah I'll be giving it a miss, barely play on last year's, although I am somewhat addicted to Ultimate Team. Not playing any matches or anything but just collecting cards through the App (doing squad building challenges and no they haven't got any additional money out of me).

Currently playing Sea of Stars and Baldurs Gate 3 so do get some value out of owning a PS5 (with PS PLUS).

I think you’ve just described getting older Jinky! I don’t have time for things like Fifa anymore, I need games I can play through and have an end to them!

I’d describe myself as a casual gamer, these days. I like the occasional half hour blast in the evening once the kids are in bed and that’s about it. Fifa has always been ideal for that purpose, but the gameplay just doesn’t seem as enjoyable these days. Especially not for the outlay!

The kids have been playing Sackboy recently, which is a brilliant little game.
