The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Re: the driving. I think having played it a bit more, it may simply be down to understanding the rules of the road US style, and who has the right of way! It might not be dumb AI, it could be dumb me! I know that sounds unlikely, but you never know...

The other thing about the driving is that you can skip it if you want! I find myself doing that more and more often - although I probably miss the secrets! Also I'm not sure if its been said but its on THREE disks!!!

It starts off slowly, but it's getting better and better. Top class game.

Definitely! I'm on my 12th case now (I think, though it could be 11th) and

***possible spoiler alert***

you have to solve a load of clues based on LA landmarks and the poems of Percy Shelley.

Now that's not something you get every day in a video game!

Enjoying LA Noire though every time Phelps starts berating witnesses or intimidating them makes me laugh, he's about as menacing as Steve Corica.

Wish you could play as few more characters as I'd love give to a few of the smug tossers that he's interviewing a good slap ala Bud White in LA Confidential. Only a minor complaint though.

I'm now onto case number 16, 'The Naked City'. This game just gets better and better. I've found the parts where you have to tail people on foot a bit tricky, I seem to get caught quite a lot, no matter far back I seem to stay! I still haven't found a single 'Golden Reel' and there are supposedly 50 of them!

:ursofunny:

Someone posted it on the Buffalo Bills forum I use. Is it or is it not comedy fucking genius!?!

For all the effort that had gone into it i was a little disappointed the Zebra was just a stripey horse and not a properly modelled Zebra, is it actually a proper game over in Japan?

I'm guessing so, you know the Japanese like their games a bit mental. There are other videos for it on youtube.

Did anyone else see the MW3 trailer at half time during the game last night?

It looks utterly incredible. I think it's going to be a really tough decision - MW3 or BF3. I don't think I can afford both. And as you know Toon, trying to get that lot to switch 'allegiance' to Battlefield won't be easy!!

It was spectacular, but that's always been the way with CoD games, stunning visuals and set pieces. In terms of gameplay Battlefield has generally been better and BF3 looks like it takes the gameplay up another notch. I know it's hard to get them to switch, but in my view CoD is for kids who like gimics and graphics, BF is for grown ups who like serious gaming...I'm certain that if they tried BF3 they would be won over. Bad Company 2 was massively superior to MW2, Black Ops is fun, but it is still very 'gimicky'. The tactical elements of the play in Battlefield would suit that crowd so much more, they just need convincing!

As I said (can't remember if it was on here, or in conversation over xbox live) I'm more than willing to change to BF3 if I think it's a better game. I only ever played the demo of BF2, and whilst I thought it had loads of potential, no game of this type is as fun if you don't have a large group of mates joining in.

I think CoD games are just the 'mindless blockbuster' variety as opposed to 'just for kids'. It's certainly not the best quality game series out there (just compare them to something truly amazing like the Mass Effect series) but they're still fucking good games. There's a reason I clock up ridiculous stats on every version of CoD - they're damn good fun.

I am hoping that IF I swap to BF3, there will be fewer wankers online - you know the ones I mean - the camping twats on Domination who never play 'for the team' on Black Ops. Hate them.

Was the MW3 trailer actually that good? Really? Lots of FMV set-pieces just like any other game in the series. Very little actual gameplay.

I'll save my decision for when we actually see how the game mechanics work.

I mainly played BF2 with 1 mate and we used to just create our own squad within the team, go spec ops, steathily infiltrate their base and then blow up all their radars and stuff. Immense fun and pleasure with just the 2 of us so numbers aren't really needed. Also depends what you purchase it on. On a console it won't be much different to CoD as I believe it will have a 24 player limit, where as PC will be 64. Maps will also be smaller on console due to the smaller player numbers.

The MW3 trailer I thought showed some promise for single player (as well as possibly some potential multiplayer map settings) but hope it has a decent length to showcase it all. Another 8 hour campaign across all those locations would be disappointing for me and as I haven't really enjoyed a CoD online since the original MW, I won't be purchasing if it's single player is short. Will wait for some reviews on it. BF3 on PC for me 100% though.

Been playing Frozen Synapse on PC over weekend (only 4 hours so far). What a game though. It's a top down, turn base strategy game where you take control of around 4 (differs each mission) soldiers and must kill the enemy squad. Each turn is 15 seconds yet you get as much time as you like to plan out each of your soldiers moves around the map before hitting "prime" which is basically accept. The move then plays out the 15 seconds. Trick is though you don't know what your enemy's moves will be and once you've played your turn there's no going back. During the planning phase you can plan where you think your enemy will go yet in my experience so far I am rarely correct. Most missions have given me a limit of how many turns I have to kill the enemy, usually 15 turns. 55 single player missions aswell as various online game modes. Hard to explain really so here is Eurogamers review by Alec Meer of Rock Paper Shotgun.

Well the dead Xbox has been replaced by a Wii until I can afford a Connect. Quite looking forward to trying the Lego games on the Wii - should be fun

Completed the story in LA Noire this afternoon. Brilliant. Totally brilliant. It's like James Ellroy meets The Wire! Preferred this to Red Dead Redemption to be honest. I've still got most of the side bits to do and there are supposed to be extra cases coming out as downloadable content. Good news!

I have zero interest in that, just 'purchased' Dirt3 and LA Noire, dont know whether to go and give one of them ago or do a bit more on either Gran Turismo or The Saboteur, too many damned options.
