The Transfer Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Middlesbrough have £5 million bid for Newcastle United keeper Karl Darlow rejected.

Transfers between the two clubs are basically off the agenda now. We haven't bought anyone off them since 1989, they haven't bought anyone off us since 1994. As the players involved were John Paskin and Paul Edwards respectively (and we also sent them Tony Lange in that time), I think we've mutually written it off and decided they're a bad idea.

Very much doubt Chadli would drop to this league in a World Cup year (as far as I know, he's still in and around the Belgian squad)

Maybe, but if I'm him I'm looking for guaranteed playing time if I want to make the final 23 for Belgium in 2018. If you put together an XI for them it's hard to see where Nacer fits in, even going two deep at each position.

Courtois/Casteels
Vertonghen/Ciman - Kompany/Alderweireld - Meunier/Kabasele
Hazard/Mertens - Nainggolan/Dembele - Fellaini(not that I agree)/Witsel - Carrasco/Mirallas
Hazard the Younger/De Bruyne
Lukaku/Origi - Batshuayi/Benteke

Obviously I think you and I would play Chadli over Fellaini every day of the week, but Senor Martinez seems to like him as much as Mourinho does.

Is there any actual reason why we don't trade with Albion aside from shit value for money?

It just seems to be a totally closed door - 23 years since a deal between us is bonkers.

I suppose for quite a lot of that time - not lately admittedly - we've been in direct competition with each other. So why would you sell good players to your rivals, with the additional PR factor of being next door to each other, and you aren't often that lucky to palm off absolute shit. United and Liverpool haven't traded since 1964 I think.

Wouldn't bother me if we did buy players off them, so long as they were good. If they don't want James Morrison any more for instance, he'd walk into our team and be quality in this league.

I think football rivalry isn't stronger, but is different now to then, mainly driven by social media and the instantaneous nature. The first mistake would be shit this, shit that, it's not worth the hassle. The exception would be if you took one of their best player or vice versa, if Sako had gone there they would have loved it for instance. In my nearly 40 years of supporting Wolves I can't think of one transfer though which was the product of one team buying someone the other didn't want to sell. None of those in that time span were contentious as all the players either way weren't getting a game at the time. The most controversial I can think of to Wolves was David Kelly who obviously didn't come from Albion, but because of his open Albion supporting was never really taken to like he should have been.

Sounds like Gylfi is off to Everton for £32m.

Rooney Barkley Siggy

Slowest attacking 3 ever?

I don't think that will be their front three. Barkley is pretty quick though anyway.

Siggy has been swans best player for years and certainly deservea to play at a bigger club

Since they allowed Bull, Thompson, Robertson and Dennison to join us, they are probably reluctant to make the same mistakes again...

He makes up for it by being criminally slow in his decision making.

Ha! He is a funny one. Sometimes he is bang on and can terrify teams but as you say he can be criminxally slow in his decision making.having seen pictures of how tall he was at 13 it makes me wonder if academy football was made easy for him and this meant he wasn't challenge psychologically

Barkley is off, isn't he?

Signed a 5 year deal I thought?

Nope. No deal signed. Persistent links with Spurs.

James Rodriguez to Bayern. Two year loan. Still signing ALL THE PLAYERS.

Those 6 goals set him up for the rest of his career.

Ha, he was amazing in that tournament though. Him and Jan vertonghen were integral members of my PTG WC winning squad ;)
