The Things You Are HAPPY About Thread.

Got sounded out about a transfer to Cape Town today. I’m very tempted. In fact, sod that, I’ll grab it with both hands and both feet if it comes off.

Have done Table Mountain and Stellenbosch (next door) Can't tell you anything about it as I was very very drunk :)
Still have a lot of contacts in Jo'burg and Durban but that's not going to help you as its about as far away as you can get within a country.

Are you talking permanently with family as well ?

The project is 7 to 10 years, so pretty much permanent I would say. The role is pretty much tailor made for me, still a long way off though.

I know a few people over there and our company is pretty big there so we wouldn’t be alone. Still a big step though.

Does the missus prefer it here or there?

I say you should go for it man, this country is in the toilet.

Surprisingly she is quite keen. Usually shoots down any ideas I get about moving away.

The UK is a great place to live, there’s just too much looking back, nostalgia and stupidity at the moment. Would be good to have a break.

I had an offer for Hamburg in 2007 and the ex didn't want to go. So I didn't.

Should have just gone.

Anything I can offer is obviously well out of date as it was twenty plus years ago when I was there, in fact it was only a few years out of apartheid but easily one of the most stunning countries on the face of Earth, It was very much a mans world (which was not a good thing if you were female) and I think it was the fact I was so innocent to what was going on, for example i was perturbed by the fact that in the house we had rented the sleeping area was closed off by a big steel gate in the corridor ! The one thing I can offer is vineyard tours and excessive heat does not make a good combination especially when you're in the back of a Landrover in Kruger Park the next morning :)

Isn't South Africa supposed to be quite racist towards white people?
White South Africans make up 7.8% of the country’s population. But they more than 90% of the country’s wealth and a government land audit in 2017 showed that white people own 72% of the land.

Ha, I once vomited copiously while wine testing hungover in Durban. Wasn't my finest moment.

Reached my lowest weight in nearly 15 years today, BMI now well under 30 too.

Main question, what's the craft beer scene like in SA?

It wasn't a thing when I was there but times have changed in twenty years, I remember the black lads giving me a six pack of what they called Zamalek which turned out to be Carling Black Label, some burping going on that afternoon :)

It's strange that because whenever i see the word Xhosa I think of you

:2xGay:

I've had Castle Lager before. Not too bad.

SA and NZ are definitely two tours I want to do one day. Aus doesn't appeal.

Did a tour of NZ (followed the Lions in 05), wonderful place and people apart from when they get within 1 mile of a rugby ground when they turn into cunts, then change back immediately when they get about milw away. Considered moving there only so far away from family.

Back in the pub pint of Guinness and football on, plus couple random Newcastle fans in going mad as they twat Bournemouth.

Course it's not as good as things were but by god that first pint was wonderful.
