The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Djiga is 22, also he has 112 senior apps.

And if he isn't ready for a relegation fight this season then don't splash £10m on him in January. Reappraise in the summer when we know where we stand and what the market has to offer
I guess it depends what we thought we were getting? We needed another centre half with Dawson about to be ex communicated, Lemina on his way out, Semedo struggling whenever he's played there, Pond not held in high esteem (from what I've read) and Meupiyou it would appear miles off. We had to sign someone as 4 for 3 places wasn't enough.

Although we all thought he was being signed to replace Doherty, he's kept his place on merit. Perhaps he was always thought to be a depth piece for at least this season?

In this speculation fest, what if Pereira thought Djiga was a bargain and he could get him get ready for next season, while Doc was doing a good enough job for the rest of this season.

Not sure about that. I don't think Doc is doing badly (I'm up there with EP as one of his biggest TWF defenders over the years), but seems a bit of a frivolous way to spend a decent chunk of our budget when we've all been shitting it about going down for most of the season. I'd have thought the January signings were intended to make a difference to keep us up.

Weird how everyone is chill about a £10m punt (if that's what we're saying), when last week people were losing their minds about Munetsi costing £6m more

In terms of appraising the Djiga signing, it still begs the question; why not just sign someone in January who can play that RFBCB role (when we only have 33 year old 'never been a CB before' Doc there) rather than another CB to compete with the other 3 fit ones we already have

We may well have tried and failed to sign a full back as well.

We needed that second CB signing as I can't believe Vítor is happy with what he's seen from Bueno so far and Dawson is clearly not an option anymore.

Could it also possibly be that VP thinks Doherty is doing fine right now and Djiga is a 21 year old kid who he doesn’t want to throw into a relegation fight in a new league/new country straight away?
Exactly.

The mistrust of Doc is clouding logic!?

But Bueno is above him in the pecking order too

Djiga is 22, also he has 111 senior apps in four different countries (not including England)

I'm glad we did though, if Doc had been shit/injured/suspended he'd have played.

Not signing players and bolstering the squad has stung us many times before.

So you're happy with Doc as first choice RCB again next season then, or are you expecting another defensive signing in the summer?

If he continues the form he's displayed this season then yes, definitely.

Djiga will have to fight for his place, and eventually will get it from Doc I'm sure, if he's good enough.

He's been less shit there than I thought he'd be but I think we'll sign another full back in the summer.

Depends on how he sees Toti & Mosquera. They've both played full back in the past, if he thinks he can get what he wants for that position from them then he could use one of them instead.

I actually said Doc was doing well enough.
Like I said we are all just speculating with no real knowledge. Maybe we just fucked up with Djiga (I don't think we did).

I think the signing would be viewed much less philosophically if we were closer to the bottom three.

For £10m you'd want him to be a strong option for us sooner rather than later, hopefully he's just a slow starter and comes good

Before he signed Vítor talked about needing another player to 'sleep easier' so it might be that the plan was for him to only be a back up for this half of the season anyway. We might see him go out on loan if we keep Bueno (please no) and Mosquera comes back.

Like a lot of players, Mosquera seems to have got better the longer he hasn’t played football.

Looked ok in the brief moments we’ve seen him but certainly didn’t look any better than anything else we’ve got here.

I don't know, I thought he played well individually, he was just part of that early season O'Neil team who didn't seem to have had any positional coaching whatsoever.

He was playing in a four though, under O'Neil, where our games resembled a game of basketball, this system should suit him miles better.

Djiga played twice against Bournemouth (starting the 2nd game), and didn't exactly inspire confidence, but then again neither did Agbadou when he first started for us.
