If that were the case then I think we'll be bottom 4.I don’t doubt we are going to sign 3 or 4 players in the next few weeks. Don’t expect them to be anything more than filler though like the deals at the end of the window last year (Doyle/Bellegarde/Bueno)
A couple of them need to be better than filler, CB and right sided wide forward imo.I don’t doubt we are going to sign 3 or 4 players in the next few weeks. Don’t expect them to be anything more than filler though like the deals at the end of the window last year (Doyle/Bellegarde/Bueno)
They won’t be signed as filler. But that’s what they’ll end up being. If you’re not paying in the top bracket then it’s highly unlikely you are getting a top player who hits the ground running.A couple of them need to be better than filler, CB and right sided wide forward imo.
Missed out on Wharton last season because they didn't want to pay the money. They won’t be signed as filler. But that’s what they’ll end up being. If you’re not paying in the top bracket then it’s highly unlikely you are getting a top player who hits the ground running.
Ideally I'd still like to do this, I appreciate we won't sign 8 players, it's more of a list of where I think the squad has deficiencies
2 new keepers, bin Sa and Bentley
Versatile experienced full back, ideally can cover both sides, but definitely left
2 new centre halves, bin Bueno
2 Inside forwards
Centre Forward
Bin Podence, Guedes, Chiquinho, Silva and Sarabia or Hwang
I'm not expecting like for like replacement for Neto etc but 'expect' better than just a journeyman, chances are I'm gunna be disappointed but I'll leave kicking off till that happens. They won’t be signed as filler. But that’s what they’ll end up being. If you’re not paying in the top bracket then it’s highly unlikely you are getting a top player who hits the ground running.
That's the ideal, doubt we'll fulfill all those but we'll see.Out:
Santi
Guedes
Chiquinho
Silva
Sá
Bentley
IN:
2x Goalkeeper
1x Centre back
1x Left midfielder/wide attacking player
1x Centre forward
That's an absolute ideal scenario for me. Realistically I don't expect either of the goalkeepers to leave and they'll both continue to be a problem for us. If our interest in Antonio is true I also don't expect the CF option to be any kind of serious player and only there for back up/experience.
I'd like to keep both Sarabia & Podence to be honest but if either of them do leave then we need someone to play right inside forward.
Apples and oranges.Suppose it’s worth mentioning that when we bought Neto none of us had any idea what to expect. Turned out okay.
That's the ideal, doubt we'll fulfill all those but we'll see.
It'll be a right sided midfielder/wide attacking player won't it? We have Rodrigo for the left?
You can do what we did with Neves and Moutinho and have their replacements signed before you sell/release them. How often does any club sell one player and immediately replace him with a player of equal “value” at the same position, though? It doesn’t feel often, at the least.
I’m just not sure what would qualify as a “replacement”. Rodrigo looks like he’ll offer an outlet of similar style to Pedro, so maybe the replacement is already here as we’ve done before. You can do what we did with Neves and Moutinho and have their replacements signed before you sell/release them.
I don't know what you're suggesting, that we continually downgrade the squad every time we sell someone because that's just what happens? Well if that does happen then we get relegated eventually. We don't have *that* much headroom on that front as it is.
Aren't most leagues like that now? It felt like Dortmund sold their best player to Bayern every Summer. Anyone who is reasonable in Scotland goes to Celtic or Rangers. PSG the same in France etc.The Championship isn't honest, PL parachute payments massively weight it in the favour of those teams. They were 3 of last year's top 4.One of the biggest leagues in the world and it's still populated by teams who are glorified revolving doors for good players to prove themselves. Remarkable that they demonstrate no ambition to actually win anything, but happily fleece the fans with inflated prices. I actually believed Fosun had ambition to be successful! Fool me once... I preferred the honesty of the Championship than this making up the numbers and selling your best players every year treadmill. Watch as Arsenal dismantle us effortlessly and the gulf in quality is once again there for all to see.
And even when an outsider actually wins something, it’s almost never enough to stop the team immediately getting pounced on by the big boys.Aren't most leagues like that now?
