The Rugby Thread

Burgess will be in, Armitage won't.

Yep, shame the Armitage won't make it, but understandable.

I'd love to see Burgess do well at centre, but it doesn't seem to be happening for him there.

Because the world can handle two very different games, played in two very different ways, both with massive fanbases?

Yes, but I presume that originally there was only one code of rugby. I just wondered why another code was set up?

Same issues around the turn of the century as football had, professionalism.

Remember Union was amateur until very recently. Even I am old enough to remember surgeon Jonathan Webb playing for England!

rugby league players wanted to be paid for playing whereas union was utterly strictly amateur.

The comment I made was somewhat simplistic. I was referring to "broken time" payments in doing so.

The irony is that League did not even become fulltime professioal until 1996. The vast majority of rugby league players are amateur to this day. The club I support competes in the second tier of the professional league, but the players are semi professional being paid win bonuses.

Dave Ewers is the boyfriend of one of my mates! He's fucking huge.

Bath 47 Leicester 10. Off to Twickenham for the final then (although I am away sadly). It is like the 1980s all over again. Brilliant performance and I am absolutely stoked to see the giant of the West Country back. Especially with beating Leicester hollow which is always sweet.

Getting warmed up for the Hunslet Doncaster clash at 3 o'clock.
