The Rugby Thread

Sorry but in that clip the England forward simply shouldn’t be there. I do think international rugby is getting badly marred by red cards being thrown around like confetti though.
That’s has utterly nothing to do with it anymore. You could equally say that for Steward being sent off following a knock on.

That’s irrelevant though it’s still dangerous play or so called

Well my view is that neither incident was worthy of a card. The Steward one is an absolute farce and that is me speaking from my “anyone but England” perspective that is no secret on here.

I also completely appreciate what world rugby are trying to do with protecting against injury but it’s a different balance to push player safety without emasculating the contact part of the game. It will be interesting to see how it is reffed at the World Cup because I can foresee a lot of yellow and red cards for all teams.

Tonga will be lucky to finish with eleven with the way they tackle.

By most accounts there are over 200 law suits in progress against the various governing bodies. Carry on as we were and there will be no rugby.

That is the massive issue. I’m sadly not sure how the circle can be squared. Changing how to legally tackle or enter a ruck is a more profound change than say when the toe stud was outlawed. I’m not sure how you deal with players just becoming more enormous. I played a bit in my youth and my brother played to a very high standard (London Welsh trials and second XV) and we would both be midgets in the modern game.

Just one thing .
Ireland finished this year's tournament without picking up a single yellow or red card .
It is possible to do .
Steward yesterday made no attempt to move out of the way if that is what he was trying to do .
He half moved and half didn't move , thereby leaving his closed arm for the Irish full back to crash straight into . He knew what he was doing .
Where was the level of care ?
If you are showing the ref that you are not in the way then raise your arms .If you are tackling then open your arms and lower your body .

That’s rubbish he had zero time to react and I mean zero time you can hear him say to the ref “I had milli seconds”
His body position and subsequent collision is caused by the Irish knock on.
He was punished for the opponents error, if you think steward was able to take evasive action you’re on another planet, sorry utterly absurd observation.

Steward has rightly had his red card downgraded to a yellow.

As said watching the replay in slow motion was daft makes it look so much worse. Shame as ruined what was shaping to be a really good game.

Absolutely magnificent game Exeter against Montpellier. Montpellier take it to extra time with last kick of normal time and then Exeter win it, on tries scored, in last minute of extra time.
