The Rugby Thread

Outrageous decision. Borderline corrupt. If I was one of the teams in England's WC group, I'd be very unhappy. The ref bottled it on the day by using this new law that allows a review of a yellow to be considered by another official (with a view to avoiding multiple replays slowing down the game). No one thought it was a yellow. No one. It was a classic Farrell no-arms illegal tackle, with shoulder to head contact which led to a failed HIA.

I did think at the time George has affected the direction - it would still have been a high tackle but wouldn't have had the shoulder to the head.

It’s an appalling decision and makes a complete mockery of international rugby commitments to minimise head contact.

It's even worse when you consider that he has been sanctioned before for this ( and got off lightly then as well ) . Surely that must play a part in any subsequent suspension .

He surely has form, he went through Tackle School last year to avoid a ban for the same tackle.

His arms made no attempt to Wrap.
A Yellow Card was fair, as George did affect and the shoulder would probably have made contact with his chest.

He may get a hefty ban with the next one, he cannot keep making no attempt to wrap his arms

It was a red card all day long and twice on Saturdays. His form book is rather longer than the one ban too.

That's precisely the issue . He simply has not learned at all , and appears to have made no effort to adjust his tackle method .

Not dissimilar to our own Johnny Sexton with his big mouth .

Very lucky to only get four games with his record. Be interesting to see what Vunipola gets later.

Vunipola gets 3 weeks ban, which can be reduced by 1 week if he takes a tackle course.

England also have a long injury list as well as 2 banned for the match with Fiji.

Johnny May scores a try.
first one for 6 hours by a back

Wow that’s a pretty low level England have sunk to can genuinely see them going out at the group stage.

Argentina should beat us comfortably and Japan will definitely believe they’ve got a chance but I think they’ve waned a bit since 2019.
The way the draw is done 2 half years before the tournament means we’ve ended up with groups a lot weaker than others.

Four of the top five in the world rankings are all on the same side of the draw. It’s completely skewed.

England would be second favourites against Argentina. Wales will definitely be that against Australia and probably Fiji too.

The top 5 according to the world rankings are on the same side.
Scotland, South Africa & Ireland plus a rejuvenated Tong in same group. Once get through that play France or New Zealand in QF.
If someone out of England, Wales Australia or Argentina can get there act together they will have a soft run to semi final
Then meet someone from otherside of draw probably out on their feet

Put Fiji into that equation too. Possibly even Japan although I think they are weaker than 4 years ago and obviously no home advantage.

Add Somoa as well (pushed Ireland last night) who are in England group, think they will be better thest then Japan. Pacific islanders are benefitting from changes in player qualification rules.

And maybe I am over estimating Australia. France destroyed them without breaking sweat.
