The Road To Germany 2024

Rashfords been poor imo, as said not tracking back and poor control when he gets the ball, trying too hard.

will any of our defenders remain in the team when Potter takes over from Safegate after the WC

Hardly a suprise we're slack in defence when you've got a back four with three players not playing their club positions (one doesn't even play in defence anymore) and Maguire doesn't play at all.

Effectively playing with 9 when you pick Philips and Maguire. Italy playing way better than the first game though.
Maguire surprisingly not the worst of the lot, Stones has been awful and couldn’t read a game if it was in big neon signs in front of him.
Phillips just offers nothing, doesn’t break up play, doesn’t protect the back four and offers nothing going forward. Rashford strolling about and leaving Trippier isolated at least 4 times one of which led to the goal. Good performance Bellingham, Kane, Pickford.

Dunk for Stones
Grealish for Rashford
Henderson for Phillips

The balance of the midfield when Rice and Phillips are together never looks right. Is Henderson in any sort of shape to improve it though?

Italy look far more impressive than us when they have the ball. Too much pressure on the defence when the midfield look unable to create anything and continually pass back.
What a player Zola was.

Henderson at least can break play up and probably reads things better

Stones error for the goal but he hasn't been awful, that's just hyperbole. He's read a good number of situations well, including a carbon copy of the move for the goal 20 minutes later that he read well.

It isn't Rashford's job to get back but Southgate needs to get Rice or Bellingham to go across to cover the runner on their right. It's Rashford's job to stay up for the counter and use his pace to run the defenders.

Southgate picking Phillips and Rice to do the same job is just odd. Means neither can do it very well with the other in the way.

I think Kane has been a bit rubbish, comes too deep and goes too wide when we need him between the width of the penalty area. Foden and Rashford have gestured as much too.

So if Gallagher and Henderson won’t improve the midfield, is it it worth a TAA gamble? Southgate wouldn’t do it though.

Stones was completely caught flat footed for the Udogie Chance before half time. Caught ball watching on the only goal you concede so far is pretty damming on your performance.
Completely disagree on Kane he’s dropped a bit deeper at times to make things happen.
