The NFL Thread

The Bears were not terrible, everyone assumes because it was 'just the Bills' they lost to they must have been terrible. The Bills have a top 5 rushing attack and a top 5 defense in the league that forces turnovers all the time- only the Seahawks had more last year. The Bears have a great offense that we held to 20 points, not because the Bears were terrible but because our defense is just that good. The Bills will make people re-evaluate their thought processes this season as long as Manuel plays like he did last Sunday.

Not that you're biased at all. I thought the Bears were awful, Cutler made several woeful decisions, missed easy passes and telegraphed his run plays with poor disguise. I didn't think the Bills played well either but enough to get by a poor Bears outfit.

I can't see the Bills making the playoffs.

So what you are trying to say is The Bears were just fine but as I (and everyone with a brain except the Bears management) spotted THREE YEARS AGO Cuttler is bloody rubbish!

Pretty much that. The defensive scheme didn't work in large patches either but when they got it right, it was good to watch. Still it's early days for them but Cutler is shite.

The Bears had the 2nd ranked offense in the entkre NFL last season, beaten only by Denver. Cutler isn't great but he's decent enough and that offense has Forte, Jeffery and Marshall, as good as any group of skill players in the league.

Johnny, I watched the whole game live, not just the highlights. The Bills were not brilliant, but on the road at a highly fancied team they were good. They moved the ball well, ran for nearly 200 yards and made plays on 3rd down, while defensively they forced turnovers at opportune times. Continue to underestimate them if you like, we will see by seasons end. Get anything like decent QB play out of EJ and they'll win the AFC East.

Toon, I don't doubt it was a bloody good result and if you can't play at full tilt and still win it's a damn fine result. I think your last sentence is telling, I'm with Alan on this I can't see EJ doing that much but then this game never fails to surprise me and Kansas City had a great season last year so maybe it can happen twice. I don't see it though.

Difficult after only one game but I was thoroughly impressed by Stafford and the Lions this week and with Falcons beating a very good Saints team.

The Bills absolutely batter Miami, EJ Manuel is efficient (again), Sammy Watkins records his first NFL TD, Sammy Watkins gets his first 100 yard game, Buffalo are 2-0. Better start re-evaluating these Buffalo Bills people. Oh wait, I guess it must be because the Dolphins are a bad team right? The same Dolphins that steamrollered the Patriots last week...

Might not be long before we see Teddy Bridgewater for Vikings, Cassel was dire today, threw 4 interceptions. They also took a blocked field goal for a TD very poor day.

Jets currently thrashing the Packers, Chargers beating the Seahawks. Browns beat the Saints. A weird day in the NFL.

Packers in the lead now though 31-24 with 9 to go..

The Jets had a game tying TD called back when their Offensive Co-ordinator called a timeout just before the ball was snapped. Priceless!

Watched RedZone for the first time yesterday which I was very impressed with although every time they went to Minnesota (who I've decided to support) Matt Cassel was throwing interceptions.

Don't do it Carrot...Vikings are not the team to follow in that division! (Go Bears)

Hang on, weren't Cutler and the Bears terrible just last week?! Or maybe it was as I said, they came up against a hugely under-rated Bills team...

Toon, I'm a Bears fan and have followed them since the early 1980's. We have failed to get a top quality (and I mean TOP QUALITY) QB since Jim McMahon left in '88. We have always had a tough, durable defence and have had our seasons "saved" over the last few years by players like Forte, Marshall and Hester. Cuttler always seems to crumble under pressure but I think you will find I didn't say anything derogatory towards The Bills. I was worried when I saw they were our first opponents and gutted we lost in OT but thought it was a good effort by Chicago...It doesn't, however, deflect from the fact that I am no fan of Cuttler and hoped that we'd bin him off at the end of last season and replace him with a brilliant, young QB.

Only 2 weeks gone Toon, fair play though the Bills were good against a decent Miami team. I still don't think they'll make the play-offs. (The Bears were bad last week). My Saints team are just giving away points in defence and it doesn't matter how good your offence is if you keep giving up the points like that (the interception killed them too). Maybe they should introduce a bonus scheme........................

Rob Ryan will be out of a job at this rate. No excuse, none at all, for the play that set up their GW field goal. A busted coverage like that? Infuriating. Meanwhile, Roman Harper, who we never should have got rid of, continues to play lights out for the Panthers.

And Mark Ingram out for a month with a broken hand. Brilliant.

Cheers, Johnny, didn't realize we shared the Saints.

How's Jairus Byrd doing for the Saints? Liked him at Buffalo but he was never worth what you gave him in his FA deal and he wore out his welcome with a fake injury when he got franchise tagged. We certainly don't seem to be missing him, our safety play has been pretty darned good so far.

He surely hasn't helped us any.

I feel like I've let myself in for a lot of disappointment but it's done now! Interested to see what Bridgewater is like when he gets a chance.

Tbh at the moment I'm enjoying watching any game that's on and trying to get to know players and the ins and outs of it more.
