The NFL Thread

Divorce announced with OBJ, but crucially contract restructured to end this season. So wherever he goes is a 1/2 season rental unless you can come to a deal with him. Unless teams are deluded then he's going to fall a fair way down the waiver wire. Panthers may be interested I suppose

I don't get it. So he's still under contract until this season finishes?

Can other teams sign him to play? They pay Cleveland and once this season finishes they have to convince the player, a bit like a loan signing?

Essentially he's been waived with his contract restructured to end this year which means that he goes through the waiver procedure. All the other 31 sides say if they want him and if they do the first in last years draft order gets him and pay his $7.5m salary for the rest of the season and then he becomes a free agent at the end. So if you are high in the draft order but still rubbish like Jacksonville, Jets, Lions etc there's no point claiming him as you are paying the money in a dead season then losing the player in Jan. Unless behind the scenes they've done a deal with his agent to agree a contract extension, which he'll only agree to if he wants to go to that franchise permanently. More likely is that someone who thinks they are a contender this year get him, which based on draft order looks like someone like the Raiders or Panthers assuming they are intererested. If not he'll drop to the first side who does, but he doesn't get a choice, he goes to the highest team who put the claim in

Denver @ Dallas; the NFL is fucking wacky sometimes.

The Vikings play calling is abysmal. Pretty much guaranteed to lose as soon as they get a lead in a game as they’ll just give up yards for fun and make zero attempt to do anything on offence.

Yeah, still playing a massively outdated version of the game. It was clear about 4 years ago they were going to do nothing with Zimmer at the helm as well and they've just done the usual, accept mediocrity

Jags beating the Bills is even bigger a shock
Based on that game you can rule the Bills out of AFC & Super Bowl contention. Patriots will even win their division. You can't win without good line play and the Bills o-line is straight out garbage. Josh Allen was running for his life the entire game and they absolutely cannot open holes for the RBs.

Now if you want to talk about a shocker of a draft pick. Raiders just released Damon Arnette, seems to be related to some kind of video of him holding a gun and threatening to kill someone but is also directly related to the fact he has either been injured consistently or terrible and therefore made himself expendable to any kind of behaviour like this, at the time he was picked 19 he was projected as a later 2nd rounder at best. Despite not being massively into projections due to the number of times they are just outright wrong, or massively inaccurate, Arnette has always looked completely out of his depth.

Awful pick, if it turns out that was more Mayock than Gruden then it will be time to listen to the suggestions he needs to be moved off GM.

Raiders' fans won't miss him, if that first comment is anything to go by.

Mayock is going to be under significant fire now. Two former first round draft picks landing in legal messes does not speak well of his ability to judge character.

"Multi millionaire guys in their early 20’s living and working in Vegas. What could possibly go wrong?"

Mayock potentially had his job saved by the Gruden resignation as probably easy for him to get one more go with him as the lead, will probably be how he puts it. That class is looking awful though. Of the 7 taken, Ruggs, Arnette, Muse, Bowden not on the team already, Edwards looked really poor again yesterday and missed all last year, Simpson the only one that's looked okay.

Ferrell also can't get on the field for them. They've been able to make it work (mostly) even without those high picks panning out, but the draft is a GM's bread and butter. You can't whiff on almost every single 1st/2nd round pick you make as a GM and expect to stay in a job (unless you take the next Brady in the 7th round or something).

Shocking levels of incompetance/corruption* from the officials in last nights game.

*delete as appropriate
I don't think it is any coincidence that games this season have seen an increased level of poor/incomprehensible officiating and this is the season where gambling laws have been changed to allow more betting on the NFL. Bookies got to make their money.

Just watching the Bears game and it’s a fucking joke. Multiple late hits on Fields just ignored but don‘t be going anywhere near Ben!
Calls for missed low blocks but Pittsburg players can actually hit a low block with no call. Absolute joke
