The NFL Thread

Jets fan reacting to the news they given up a draft pick for the corpse of Joe Flacco: I wish I could microwave myself. 😂😂😂

It's a strange move that's for sure.
Shows Philly are coming towards the end of the Jalen Hurts experience without any real idea what's next. As Gregg Rosenthal said there hasn't been an NFL player with a bigger gap between his FF value and the real on the pitch product.

Watson won't come/fans really don't want him and according to experts the top QB in this year's draft is rated behind the top 5 last, so no obvious fix there. Picking up the kid from the Dolphins along with Minshew at the start of the season feels like a throw enough shit at the wall and hope something sticks strategy. All whilst have a HC and DC who are so woefully out of their depth it's borderline entertaining.

More misery for Bears fans: apparently during the Bucs game a coach is on the headset and tells Fields that the Bucs have 12 men on the field so to snap the ball quick, throw it deep it's a free play. Except that the Bucs only had 11 on the field and the pass is intercepted... Nagy's response? Fields has to do better at understanding the situation! Basically throwing his rookie QB under the bus and not putting any responsibility on the coach. Terrible.

The Lions are the worst team in the NFL, but scheming a game plan that suits your QB seems to be smart...who'd have thought it?

Great stuff from Fields. 103 yds rushing.

Whatever else anyone thinks about Kaep, I think he's proven to be a highly thoughtful individual and he's exceptional at conveying those thoughts.

Derrick Henry to have foot surgery on Thursday and will be out for 6 to 10 weeks! Big blow that

Massive.

I ever tell you guys about the time I met Big Derrick? Nice guy. Seemed pretty bemused by everybody wanting to talk to him.

He's also about 10 times bigger than you think he'll be, which is saying something.

Not even the first WR to do that, and the other guy I'm thinking of returned to the league not long after.

Still, Ruggs went to Alabama so I've seen him since he was 18. Really sucks to see him put himself in that position. I don't think he'll need to be told just how badly he's fucked up here (though obviously he deserves to be held accountable here).

Will he not go to prison for vehicular homicide?

Not for very long, if past history is anything to go by.

At a guess, less than a year of prison time, lengthy parole (including rehab), and some amount of community service that he may be able to pay off via donations.

We'll see how it goes. A lot of fuss was made about the last player who killed someone whilst drunk driving (can't remember his name for the life of me... WR for the Browns, though, maybe 10 or 15 years ago?), so maybe it'll be different this go around.

Picking him as Number 1 WR in a draft which included Jefferson and Lamb already looked poor decision making, now its a shocker

Complete hindsight with Jefferson though as at the time no one was saying he was should be the no1 WR. Ruggs had started to really develop this year and his speed has won games. Other than Jefferson he is still looking like the WR Raiders game needed. Of the WR class from last year he isn't a shocker in anyway except for this recent news, and 'by the way are you planning or killing someone in the near future?' wasn't in the thinking when they drafted him, specifically given the Raiders are as high on character picks as anyone of recent years! Some of the below had better rookie years but haven't looked better this year to me.

Ruggs
Jeudy
Lamb
Regaor
Aiyuk
Higgins
Pittman
Shenault
Hamler
Claypool
Van Jefferson
Mims

Lamb has looked way better than Ruggs, last year and this. I mean it's not even close, although they play the position differently. As for Jefferson he was seen as the 4th best coming into the draft by most evaluations so not exactly a nobody.

Spending your first round pick on a player you are sacking 18 months later means you've had a shocker. It doesn't really matter what the circumstances were.

I agree with you on Lamb and Jefferson but not even the Raiders could've foreseen him killing somebody drink driving.

I'm not suggesting that they should have, just that given the talent available last year, missing out on one of those and then having to sack the guy they took instead is a huge miss. Hence it was a shocker.

Edit, he'd been travelling at 156mph

I mean it does, this incident doesn't happen Ruggs was developing into a true no. 1 and is getting a 2nd contract at the Raiders. So the circumstances very much matter, I know Lamb is better but Ruggs has been one of the most progressed players this year for the Raiders.

Lamb also has the advantage of playing for a more complete offensive team than the Raiders. Lining up opposite Amari Cooper tends to open things up for you.

Honestly, though, this kind of hurts to talk about. I loved Ruggs at Bama, he was so, so good for us. And seemed a good kid. I hate so much that he did something so monumentally stupid and ruined a number of lives in the process, including his own. It's just fucking sad.
