The NFL Thread

Maybe. We shall see, I still think he has talent and if they can integrate him into their offense in a reasonable way then they will sure be tough to defend against. I wouldn't want him on my team, mind.

I guess they're thinking Jefferson is still one for the future and OBJ is a relatively cheap way of having 3 good WRs for a Superbowl push.

I read they needed a deep threat more than anything with DeSean Jackson leaving though.

The reason Jackson left though was because he wasn't getting on the field

They do spread the ball around a lot though. He'll get plenty of targets IMO.

Agreed, he will because they'll need to. I guess you don't know what's going to happen with injuries, if Kupp goes down on Sunday then it will look wise. They have saved $3m versus claiming him on waivers

I'm not sure that Odell is quite the locker room cancer he's been made out to be. His colleagues in Cleveland seemed to really like him; just didn't work out from a football perspective.

OBJ will also be fully aware that this is probably the last round he has in the chamber. If he flames out in LA, that's pretty much gonna be it for him.

Wow. Even more tone deaf than the Yorkshire Chief Exec's resignation statement

Gruden has never been one to know when he’s wrong.

Cam Newton = Weapons Grade Prick.

That's a tad harsh if it's just about his celebrating? He was widely disregarded and then ignored, he at least changed his stance on the vax so proves he wants to play, and he is fantastic at what he does well, still think PJ Walker looks a better passer than him but then you don't need an elite passer to get the best out of CMC.

It also tells you what a brutal league the NFL is. You absolutely have to get that second contract
Appreciate very much that this has been recognized. I wouldn't be able to say "it's as brutal as rugby" as I have no idea (although I doubt it). But it's still a brutal sport.

Probably an overused number, but I remember the average NFL career being something like 2.5 years. If you aren't a star, the league will discard you at first opportunity, and there are new bodies coming to replace you every single year. Younger, healthier bodies.

It's a rough machine at times.

It's horrible and the way beat reporters speak about players is absolutely brutal. Much more a commodity view than our football

It's more brutal than rugby even in the slightly safer state it's in now.

Players tend to be faster which means hits are harder and from all angles which is something you don't get in rugby. There's also a mentality of blind side hits, late hits and hitting to stop players rather than tackling to win the ball back as there is in rugby.

Pads are weapons and forces are much bigger at those speeds. Add to that players are at their pinnacle even if you're unfortunate enough to have even a slight niggle, if it diminishes your performance 5% and the money situation makes sense you're gone.

I don't think I've ever seen a sport as harsh as pro American football.

I’d say the NFL is far more brutal than Rugby but that’s because none of them in the NFL can actually “tackle” and the protection just means they do stupid things like smash someone In mid air with their helmet (although not technically allowed anymore).

In rugby when you tackle you can’t just smash them to the floor you’ve got to wrap them and then hold on until the ruck is formed. You also have to tackle properly not just leave a shoulder in their face/chest etc. Also the fact that they have no protection means they don’t take safety for granted.

Plus all what Johnny said.
