The NFL Thread

I've always thought roughing the passer calls are extremely variable. Some really late that are allowed, some slight nudges just after the ball goes that get flagged. Never understood it.

Wait until you get to the bit with the taunting call after the sack!
There was another 'dubious' call too. Bears scored a touchdown that was called back for a low block that was outside the tight end box (new rule for this year, used to be the tackle box), but the lineman whiffed on the block, totally missed the defensive player but the ref called it anyway. Absolutely bent.
Saw all of that and a bit more. Absolute joke officiating, it got me quite angry tbh

The referee actually moves backwards (and sticks an elbow out) while Marsh is slightly swerving to avoid him

It’s definitely dodgy, I can’t really tell to what extent. If it’s just the set of refs with a bias or if it goes deeper but there’s no way they’re that incompetent.

Surprise, surprise the NFL's official highlight images stop right after the 'taunting' but the audio carries on so you can hear the commentators criticise the call.

Bent as fuck.

Adam Thielen has made a statement basically saying that this kind of level of officiating has to stop and the officials must be made full time. If its incompetence then something will be done to address it. If its corruption it'll be swept under the carpet because the only way it is corruption is if the league is complicit in it too.

I always think corruption is a bit tin foil hat for most sports. In the NFL you've got a bunch of 60 year old men trying to officiate a league full of tall, quick, aggressive athletes. By and large that's the issue.

Most of us will have sat at ground level for a football game and been amazed by the pace of the game, compared to what it looks like higher up or on TV. Trying to do that whilst officiating such a physical sport as AF, whilst being 60 is near impossible. None of that explains the arse block, but does why so many officiating teams aren't fit for purpose. So many players are disgarded or burnt out by their late 20's, its fairly easy to fix if they wanted to

If the officiating was bad for both teams in a game equally I think the corruption argument would not exist. But when the poor decisions negatively impact one team and favour another then it will be raised. I don't think you would find a single Bears fan who thought that the game last night was officiated the same way for both teams. And that is a major problem and a really bad look for the league. And I guarantee that it isn't the only game that has been officiated that way. Officiating in most games is bad but there are a lot of games where one team benefits more than the other. It sucks.

Are you honestly defending the referee team Johnny? The ref definitely backed into the Bears player before throwing the flag and that is one of 15 calls/non calls by this officiating team and the all of them against the Bears

No, the complete opposite.

Cam looks like he's going back to Carolina. Probably not starting quality anymore, but better than Darnold fit or otherwise

What has happened to Newton? Is it the shoulder, injuries stacking up, attitude?

He looked absolutely shot the last time I saw him, mainly physically but mentally too.

In the year that the film about Kurt Warner is released, the NFL is heading for a rematch of the Rams v Titans Superbowl. Put money on it.

If anything OBJ to the Rams will destabilise them. They don't need him, they have 3 quality WR's and he's poison.
I'm with you, I don't see the benefit at all unless they have an injury.

Guy's a weapon.

The Rams are going all in on a Super Bowl run this year though, that's for sure. Don't think they have a draft pick until about 2045...

Just don't see how signing a guy who is injured more than fit, hasn't had a good season in 5 years and manipulated his way out of Cleveland because he didn't think he was targetted enough makes sense when you have a WR1 who is on pace for an NFL seasonal total yards record and 2 very good players to back him up. The risk is more than the reward imv.
