The Music Thread Strikes Back

Might give Chvrches a go at 6.45 then Texas later.

Royal Blood are on tonight too so I can roll out my Tarquins of the Stone Age gag.

Haven't been into the revamped wulfrun yet, but did the Civic for the James gig on tuesday.
The venue is superb. It isn't immediately obvious where the money has gone, but thankfully the soul of the place is good.
Really impressed with the quality and availability of toilets now.
Did find it a bit frustrating in the civic that you are repeatedly being asked to show your ticket. I guess this is to stop people buying seats but then standing.
Gig looked sold out and properly packed downstairs.
Views from the seats are amazing.
Rather suspect that people need to get used to lighting the room properly, and also getting the sound levels right, as it wasn't spot on.

James, as always were fab. Loved hearing What For live for the first time in decades. Very different gig to the recent orchestral show at symphony hall, which was epic and mind blowing.

Started listening to Be Opened By The Wonderful yesterday, as have only just taken delivery of it. Only 6 tracks in so far, but it sounds really good.
Sounds great 😊 James at the Manchester G-Mex was my first proper gig, 31 years ago now. Support act in front of the curtain that night… some guys called Radiohead.

I have seen James far too many times (first gig was 1997). Every tour since, plus a few festivals and so on. Definitely over 20 times, and there is only 1 gig they played where they haven't played something I haven't heard live before.
Probably one of the best live acts I have had the fortune to enjoy.

My mate saw Muse recently. Won the tickets and decided to go. Reckons best he's seen live and he's seen a fair few. Had no idea they were so big tbh

Watching a single band 20+ times seems crazy to me. I wouldn't have wanted to watch Oasis or The Smiths that often. Before we get into the merits of James...

I've no issue with it but as I only go occasionally, it would seem a waste, rather see as many different bands as possible.
My SiL has seen Ash probably 20 or more times, he admits he's obsessed, I went with him and daughter a few times, they were good, but not that good....he obvs feels differently.

People do all sorts of things which they enjoy more than once. Re-visiting films, TV series, books, meals, holiday destinations, albums, and so on.
For me, each gig will be a unique experience, for various reasons (venue, company, set list etc).
It may be unusual, or not normal, however I've had a lot of enjoyment from each gig, & i'd still like to see them again because they continue to surprise and move me.
The merits of them argument is much more a subjective one.

I enjoyed the Manics set at Glastonbury earlier. I loved hearing a few Holy Bible tracks in there.

They almost made my top 5 band list on the other thread. I only left them off as I haven’t listened to their last 4 or 5 albums.

After hearing Young Fathers set yesterday they could make my top 5
