The Music Thread Strikes Back

Yes Sabbath is a big outlay

But

Last gig ever
Bill Ward for first time since I was in primary school
Metallica alone is normally a 150 quid ticket
Slayer out of retirement and first British gig in 8 years

If I were in the uk I would be all over it

Bill Ward last played with Sabbath 20 years ago... so not quite when you were in primary school!

I thought he walked out of the studio during born again.

Shows what I know
Officially, that was for "health reasons". Presumably an alcohol relapse given what he's said about the recording of Heaven & Hell (IE, that he remembers basically none of it).

I didn't realize Ward wasn't on Mob Rules for the same reason.

Shout outs to Ronnie. RIP. 🤘

"A group of 1,000 musicians including Annie Lennox, Kate Bush and Sam Fender have released a silent album to protest the governments planned changes to copyright law.
They fear that the new changes would impact the music industry negatively".

Not heard it myself tbh...

Insert Queens of the Stone Age joke

Rumours that the beta band are reforming.

Also, ludovico einaudi's summer portraits lp is delightful.

Beta band have announced September shows. Nearest for me is Nottingham.

Massive attack playing the co op arena.

I'm clearly getting old because there aren't many acts there I'd be excited to see.

Neil Young
Alanis
Biffy Clyro*
Franz Ferdinand*
John Fogerty*
Father John Misty
Nile Rodgers*

*seen before

No FOMO for me this year!

Alanis Morissette
Blossoms*
Franz Ferdinand*
Supergrass*
Gary Numan
Scissor Sisters
Weezer*
Rod Stewart
Future Islands

I'd have liked to have seen The Libertines in around 2003. Not so much now.

busta rhymes

neil young
ezra collective
beth gibbons
bob vylan

The 1975*
Biffy Clyro*
Alanis Morissette
Wet Leg*
Franz Ferdinand
Inhaler*
Lola Young
Supergrass
Neil Young
Deftones
Beabadoobee
Kaiserchiefs
Scissor Sisters
TV On The Radio
Weezer
The Prodigy
Wolf Alice*
The Libertines*
Future Islands
Royel Otis
The Maccabees
Turnstile

Lots there I'd like to see - in particular Weezer, Deftones & Turnstile. Franz Ferdinand are playing Truck Festival this year so I'll get to tick them off in a few months. Disclaimer: I saw The 1975 just after they released their first album, which was very good. I believe they've gone a bit shit since and the blokes a tosser.

In other news, I'm off to watch The Darkness on Saturday at Oxford New Theatre. Not a venue I expected to see them at, but looking forward to it!

I saw the Kaiser Chiefs around 2004/2005 and they were good. Ricky Wilson can't sing for shit these days though.

They’re one of the best live bands, play every gig as though they’re headlining knebworth or similar, saw them at the robin, and when they opened Glastonbury at 10.30 am on the Friday.
If you’ve never seen it YouTube them on later with jools Holland

Justin’s really cleaned himself up the last few years and his voice really holds up live - one of the only real/true proper rock n’roll bands still making new music/hitting the road, I reckon?
