Huge club though, think they won the European cup at some point

I know this was a piss taking comment, but are Villa any bigger than we are now? Regularly finished above them over the last 5 years and the European Cup was 40 years ago, with pretty identical league records. The only real things that would be more attractive are money and a vison

They’re definitely more well known than we are over here (for whatever that’s worth, which probably isn’t much). But I think that’s mostly from when Michael Bradley was there.

Let’s be honest, they are bigger than us. If you’re playing Big Club top trumps they outscore us on just about every metric. Which is why out performing them in recent years has been so sweet.

They were miles better than us through the 80s, 90s and 2000s. All the first half of the 2010s too.

We'd have to significantly outperform them for a decent length of time (finishing a couple of places higher doesn't count) to redress the balance.

Did a pretty good job of nearly winning the premier league under Martin O’Neill and John Gregory when Randy Van warmer was owning them.

Cue DW putting me properly right over that statement

Nah its funny watching people being convinced by bullshit

Closest they came to winning the PL was 92/93. The others they were top or around top at Xmas and fell away I think

Bottled it a bit in 1993.

Drew at Old Trafford in mid-March and they were dead level with United with 9 games to go. Not that tough a run in.

Then went W4 D1 L4, which is nowhere near good enough.

They were top on New Year's Day 1999:

Fell away and finished 6th, not even making Europe.

Edit: Relegation form from there! 16 points from 18 games.

They definitely have delusions of grandeur now though. Saw some comments earlier from their fans who were convinced they were getting Poch or Tuchel and gutted this wasn't going to happen. They haven't even finished in the top half of the PL since 2011, you're not in that market, boys.

They've also not won a single FA Cup fixture since January 2016.

They are fully grounded. They realise Poch or Tuch might not come, but that's okay then, they'll just take Howe off Newcastle...

Emery confirmed. €6m release and €7m a year. Appointed 5 days after they sacked Gerrard

But but but Jeff told us there’s nobody out there….

You get the impression they had him sounded out weeks ago .

interesting the piece is by Maher. wonder if liam is trying to ensure he has a bridge to the club? or are the e&s going all in?
