The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

5th or 6th is no good to Liverpool and I wouldn't say they're that sure to finish that high up, they could easily be overtaken by other clubs the way they're going. Rodgers has never won anything and demonstrably cannot set a team up defensively, he is shocking in the market, there are dozens of managers I'd take over him.

His Swansea team had a great defensive record didn't they? Obviously helped by the amount of possession they used to regularly have in games but they were never a bombscare when they had to do some defending, still seems a little odd how drastically he changed his approach when he went to Liverpool, though I suppose a more direct approach bought out the best in many of the squad and he probably lacked the footballing ability at the back to play the way his Swansea side had.

Could Liverpool perhaps benefit from Rodgers reverting back to his old ways and slowing the play down?

He does periodically try to go back to that style, but either Liverpool don't have the players to make it work or it's incompatible with a team that are expected to win most weeks which Swansea weren't, so he has to come up with something else (and in the interim, he tries any old crap and the results fit to suit while he flounders around).

He inherited all of Swansea's defenders I think, he sure as shit can't sign anyone to play there.

He signed Neil Taylor from Wrexham.

Loaned Caulker in too.

We'll grant him those two then.

At Liverpool his signings at the back have been:

Kolo Toure
Dejan Lovren
Mamadou Sakho
Alberto Moreno
Javi Manquillo
Emre Can (at least Rodgers seems to think he's a defender)
Aly Cissokho
Tiago Ilori

Around £65m plus wages there. That doesn't look to me like the mark of a man who has a handle on what you need to build a solid foundation, leaving aside that he habitually sends out midfields with no defensive minded players at all. None of those players have improved under Rodgers either, in fact he's turned Lovren into a shambles after he was one of the best defenders in the league last season.

That's quite a list :icon_lol:

HOW has he managed that?!

I think he's shocking in the transfer market full stop, he doesn't seem to have any idea how he's going to use any of the players he's signed.

Allen was a very tidy player for ball retention at Swansea but there's just no call for that role the way he's got Liverpool playing, he signed a winger in Markovic but spent most of the season playing without Markovic, signed Lallana on the back of playing very well as a no. 10 for Southampton but he'd already got Coutinho for that so ended up fudging him in anywhere he could when he was fit. They're not horrific players but there just appears to be no thought at all into how they become a team.

I imagine at Swansea their DoF is an absolute machine as they seem to be able to replace key players almost seamlessly.

Outside of Can he doesn't really have a good defensive midfielder to play. Leiva offers nothing and Allen is... I don't know what Allen is.

Granted it's his own fault for not buying one.

Apparently they've just put in a bid of £21million for Mateo Kovacic.

He hasn't. That is the problem.

Good player.

Typical Brendan though - you've already got Coutinho and Lallana in that role.

He's a moron.

Does Rodgers even have much say in their signings? They have that Transfer Committee led by Ian Ayre don't they?

Unless their system is totally broken you'd imagine he has to have some say in things, right?

Allen and Borini were most definitely his signings, £26m well spent there.

How many midfielders does Rodgers want..he needs defenders and a bloody good forward, next to the injury prone sturridge

Sinisa Mihajlovic meeting with Milan tonight to discuss taking over after Ancelotti chose to take a year off.

Mihajlovic is a horrible prick but he'll do well there IMO.

Shhteve McClaren goes to Newcastle?

Close to move, according to Sky.
