DERBY will sort out Steve McClaren’s exit from the club TODAY as the stunned manager dashes back from a family holiday.
McClaren’s agent is speaking to Rams officials about how he leaves — with a mutual agreement possible to end his reign at the club.
The former England boss has been shocked to find out that major figures at Derby have turned against him, blaming Newcastle United’s interest for unsettling their promotion bid.
McClaren is surprised that he should be put in this position as the Toon Army came for him during the season — and not the other way round.
Yet he is not going to put up a fight and his advisers hope to sort out a sum of money for a settlement before he personally meets them to say farewell.
It is a dramatic change for McClaren, who met his players at the end of the season and told them he would “sweat blood” to take them up next time.
But major Derby backer Mel Morris has other ideas and the Rams have already begun a chase for a new boss. Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement is the red-hot favourite.
Clement has ties with the club as he has the WMG representing him. They are the multi-national group that Derby chief executive Sam Rush worked for earlier in his career.
