The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

After his record breaking season, seems harsh to pull the plug on him after 11 games

Unbeaten runs are a bit misleading...Hoddle anyone? Still holds the record here by a long way for number of consecutive undefeated games. Certainly Huddersfield under Lee Clark more and more became concerned about preserving that record than actually winning games and it ended up costing them promotion. Forest are undefeated so far - or to put it another way, they've won one out of their last six and drew 0-0 three times in a row last month.

When the run = Promotion though, it adds a bit of weight behind it.

Obviously don't know if the manager and chairman had a fall out or if the Chairman was expecting Promotion this season but on the outside it looks a bit harsh at this moment in time.

I think with them being newly relegated to L2 last season, they would have been expected to go straight back up anyway - hence Wilcox getting the gig in the first place after Laws had a poor start. Just checked and between 18th January and 11th March they played 11 games and drew 9 of them! Probably a fair assumption to make that the football wasn't exactly sparkling in that case. They finished up with 81 points which is very low to finish in the top three of a division.

Since 2005/6, that is the only season that they have spent in L2 so it is likely that the board see L1 as their natural level these days and struggling at the bottom of that division = failure I suppose. Jackett would be in trouble if we were 23rd in the Championship now.

Another ridiculous sacking. He got them promoted and is sacked after a few games.

He got them promoted from a level where they believe they don't belong. As I say, if Kenny Jackett had us in a relegation scrap he would rightfully be under major pressure.

I think you're deliberately obtuse with this a lot of the time. It wears thin.

Not at all. They are hardly adrift. A couple of wins and Scunthorpe will be out of the bottom four. The man was good enough to get them promoted, so should have been given a fair crack of the whip.

its just how football is atm..only results counts..money involved , owners could have some more patience maybe but im not an owner..english leagues most sacks in the world?

As they're on a run of 5 defeats in 6 games getting "a couple of wins" is a fairly futile hope.

Last season he drew more games than he won. Despite them being a level below where in modern terms they naturally belong.

Willfully obtuse, as I say.

Dan, you forgot to mention that they only lost five games. That is pretty impressive.

And no club has a given right to be at any level.

So no, I am not being obtuse, just having the audacity to put my opinion forward.

I'm with Frank on this one. Sacking Wilcox was a joke of a decision IMO and I'd imagine that most Scunny fans would agree.

64 points from his 41 games in charge doesn't make much of an inestimable case tbh.

They've had basically the spine of their team out injured this season. Looking from the outside in he's not had enough time to turn it around IMO. He hasn't done very well in his previous assistant manager jobs though so maybe that has counted against him.

Only that's nonsense as there really isn't much difference between Lg1 and 2 in terms of wages or infrastructure of the clubs that occupy them. There are bigger wage structures in the conference than half the clubs in Lg2 and some in Lg1.

Frank's wrong again and DW's right, most people said Adkins was wrong to be sacked at Soton but look what happened there. The same thing should happen to Redknapp at QPR too and nobody would bat an eyelid if it did.

Yeah johnny..i just cant believe how redknapp is still there..all he has done is buy unnecessary players for millions and millions..and without progress to go with it..they were lucky to go up instead of derby and they just arent up for it atm..

Half of fleet street would.

Quite, but I'm sure when Pardew gets the boot the London centric garbage that masquerades as football reporting will be all over that like Redknapp was just the last victim booted from Stricty Come Gaying.

The media love-in with the wheeler-dealer is vomit-inducing, and has been for years. I hope he is so utterly fucking rancid with QPR that even Havant and Waterlooville wouldn't touch him for another job.

Imagine our TV screens filled with the 'punditry' of Hoodle and Redknapp together with Chiles and Townsend?
