The January 2024 "Will we actually sign a striker or just Che Adams/Kieffer Moore" Transfer Thread

I could understand letting Sasa or Fabio go out on loan without a replacement lined up but not both.

If push comes to shove then Gary would have to have used them because there is no one else, but to let BOTH options go without getting anyone else in is ridiculous.

Fraser, by default, becomes the next option but surely keeping either Sasa or Fabio around meant Fraser would already have gone out on loan. I get that decisions are made to benefit players, but surely if that's to the detriment of the club then we need to be a bit more grown up about things
For him to have used them meaningfully we'd have needed 3 injuries to Cunha, Neto, Bellegarde, Hwang and Sarabia. He'd play any 3 of those 5 across a 3 and any of the first 4 as a 9 before he'd have started either of them. You could argue 4 injuries as I bet he'd have put RAN in the front 3 as well. Whether we sign someone today doesn't really make much difference to how much time those 2 would have seen. It does to our ability to give those we have a break

What happens if Cunha gets crocked tonight? Or Neto? Are we going to get Diego Costa back in for a glorious return?

This window has been another shambles.

It'd be Fraser/Chirewa/Noah/Enso backing up the first team. Big opportunity for those guys obviously but not ideal at all.

An injury or two means an awful lot of minutes for those guys.
I've just shown we'd need at least 3 and arguably 4. He didn't rate them, he wasn't going to play them, he'd have shuffled things around to not to. Different argument for me as to the failure to sign someone

Yeah, I misread your post and deleted my comment.

It'd be a real pain living in a hotel Armando better staying at home

Not really sure why any of these players needs a break from now to the end of the season. They are professional athletes and they will be monitored carefully as to their levels. There's only a couple more spells where we will have two games in a week. We have plenty of talent to last the last 17 games of the season IMO. Sincerely hope we are playing the long term game as we don't need a quick fix pill. The squad is fine as it is and if we bide our time in getting the right player on the right terms we will be doing nicely. Seems to me that some fans love to panic because we aren't signing anyone of note. Happens every transfer window.

Fulham: straight in the first team and doesn’t have to move. Think we’ll be alright here

Wouldn't that leave Fulham with 3 players competing for the same spot, Raul, Vinicius and Broja?

Or is it really only Raul and Broja because Vinicius is gash

Laughable that we’ve missed out on our top target (taking our own opinions out of it for a minute because the club obviously wanted him) because we don’t want to pay a £750k loan fee, when Chelsea were asking £35m for him a week ago.

I bet Gaz will be absolutely fuming.

£4m is obviously a lot but clubs don’t give players away for free (except us obviously).

5 year contract £40m fee. So £4m loan fee to try before you buy for 6 months is a more than reasonable amount to pay/ask for.

Some difference between the £750k reported fee by Delaney & the £4m from Fab. If it’s £4m then fair enough us walking away. Still doesn’t excuse the abysmal window we’ve just witnessed again.

Probably £4M if he doesn't meet the appearances, £750K if he does

It's so fucking unnecessary. It doesn't take a month to figure out if something is affordable or the player is wanted by the manager. He really wants a fucking striker, and once again we're patting a manager on the head and telling him to shut up and be happy with what he's got.

We have plenty of money. We have a need. It shouldn't be this fucking hard to sort something out.
