The January 2024 "Will we actually sign a striker or just Che Adams/Kieffer Moore" Transfer Thread

We apparently have scouts looking at different profiles of player around the world so even if a poster on here can't name one what does it really prove? They definitely shouldn't be in a position where it is Broja, Adams or fuck all.
That’s fair I guess but still, to me, presupposes that the reporting has given us all the details. Feels like we believe the media when it is useful to stick in the club’s eye and call them professional bullshitters otherwise.

It’s tough to carry an argument when there’s a void where either side’s real evidence should be.

Surely the evidence is there in plain sight on the pitch and bench tonight? We’re evidently short of options with only one first team player unavailable. We are a professional football club operating in the middle of the best league in the world. Doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect we’d have minimum credible numbers. What the media do or don’t report about our attempts to address the issue is neither here nor there for me, the job just hasn’t been done.

I'm not holding them up as any model, I doubt anybody did for Forest or Everton either. Just saying they hadn't done any business this window because they'd spent their money in the Summer and now they have, they've moved it into next season. We on the face of things don't seem prepared to do that or at least can't find a partner who will.
Didn't we do that last January? The summer window was.fun wasn't it?

Not in the league we haven't.

Even the manager has said we need a 9.
We have scored 30 goals in 21 games, only drew a Blank at Man Utd , West Ham and Brighton.

So have still scored goals, we all know we want/need a number 9, but if it does not happen for whatever reason, then it's not the end of the world

Yeah, alright. Don’t feel the same as y’all but those are solid rebuttals.

Ah, we tried to do a deal but that pesky agent changed his demands at the 11th hour and there was definitely no room for negotiation. Not possible the get any more irons in the fire now, oh dear never mind.

Their bullshit knows no bounds.

I'm all for us telling an agent to fuck off if they want more money after a negotiation. Delighted we told them to get in the sea.

Not overly delighted the move falls down and leaves us short but that's a different matter.

We loaned Sasa out on 7 January and clearly for a number of weeks beforehand we were open to him leaving as the manager doesn't want to use him, if they'd earmarked Alberto as an alternative - I don't know, I'd never heard of him 24 hours ago - then it shouldn't have taken 3 weeks (coincidentally right at the end of the window when any delay will scupper a move, oh no, would you believe it) to sort out.

I’m saying it’s bullshit. I think cynicism given our history is perfectly reasonable.

Doesn't beat looking like we'd sign Renato Sanches when we didn't expect to so sending in our own crack team of medical experts to diagnose his injury as worse than expected and him them coming back exactly in line with the original time frame. I can't remember who but there was another player at the end of that window we accidently missed out on as well.

His agent has form. Fucked up a move previously for him.

Reasonable to be cynical but in this case I would say it's the truth.

I'll raise you Hoddle's 4,512 bids for Idiakez all summer when we were told over and over that he wasn't for sale and he didn't want to go anyway, then bidding less for Rasiak than Spurs did to try and do a double deal around half an hour before the deadline.

Especially considering the line about us 'only having 1 game in January'. Even putting aside how obviously stupid and untrue that was, how many games have we got now until the end of the season? We knew this would be a possibility when we loaned him out.

Ekitike to Eintracht Frankfurt has been here we go'd by FabRom

Not arsed about him. He has barely kicked a ball in 9 months, going to be of virtually zero short term value.
