The January 2024 "Will we actually sign a striker or just Che Adams/Kieffer Moore" Transfer Thread

Chirewa is more a wide forward than a proper striker though isn't he?

(With zero pace)
So are all the options we have already, Neto, Hwang, Bellegarde and Cunha is an inside forward a cliche number 8 and a half or what numbers are used for that area.

I agree, but Fraser is a "proper" no.9
Yep. We have let 2 go from that position, regardless of how good they actually are in our opinions. Have chased Ings, Adams & Broja.
They want/need a #9 but likelihood is our own kid is going to be that option as a back up. Have to trust him. Pointless him sitting there doing a Fabio Silva impression each week and getting 0 mins

I don't get sending Fabio and Sasa on loan and then trying to get in others that don't do the press he wants to play.

Gazza seems to think Bellegarde can play a similar role to Hwang. Not sure I agree but I imagine that's who will play if Hwang & Sarabia are unavailable.

Nope, it's stupid.

I can only imagine he was promised we'd get someone in.

Maybe just maybe it might have been a better idea to wait until we had clinched the incoming forward before letting Sasa go

Presume because he wants a different option to fall on for some games.

Agree but he wasn't giving him much game time so clearly not a fan. I think if he was here now he still would have started Bellegarde in the false 9 position rather than starting Sasa.

Sasa came on in injury time vs Forest and then went 5 straight games as an unused sub.

Gaz just doesn't pick players he doesn't rate or who don't fit.
Yeah, because we had better available options.

If in the future months that isn't the case, we don't have that option now, we just have to flog the current players and hope they don't lose form, get injured or suspended.

Works both ways, ay? If we stay healthy (big if, granted), then we’ve blown money on a player who gained us nothing but a barrier to Fraser’s development and who, by design, has no future here.

I don’t particularly want a player like that.

...and in all likelihood stunt Fraser's development in the process

The barrier to Fraser's development is him not going out on loan. Signing a back up forward would enable that.

Apples, oranges, etc.

You could just say you were wrong :D
Eh?

It's an opinion?

Before Raul got injured Fabio was getting the odd minute but was on the bench, as soon as Raul got injured Fabio was starting, this is a very likely outcome with Fraser if Cunha and/or Hwang get injured.

I’d argue that Gary has already shown he prefers Fraser to a Bundesliga vet in Saša.

A loan is beyond Nathan at this stage. He seems ready to contribute, IMO.
