The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

If the transfer policy is to lose out on players because Hobbs wants to be the reincarnation of Jez Moxey, constantly lowballing and waiting for clubs to back down then he's no better than Sellars, and we may as well just let Mendes do everything again.
Where have you got that from?

I'm seeing what is currently happening with every player worth more than a few million that we've confirmed to have bid for. Scott, Elvedi, Retegui...

We can seemingly bring in cheap/free players no problem, but anyone worth a bit more and we seem to be struggling, or unwilling to match what clubs want without testing their patience.

But it's all guesswork off Twitter.

Scott is a huge outlay for someone with a fairly thin body of work. If the club think he's worth it then fine, but they certainly shouldn't be piling straight in with £25m in used tenners. No-one else has, after all.

Where have you seen us lowballing Gladbach on Elvedi?

Are Fosun working under different FFP rules to everyone else or something?! Fuck sake, we've brought in, what £80m or thereabouts, is it impossible for us to spend anything before getting even more money in? It's like they got close to being in FFP trouble and are now shitting themselves about doing any kind of business. I just wish they'd fuck off.

Not really what I'm seeing. We've allegedly put forward the highest bid for two of those (Retegui & Scott).

Re what clubs want, there doesn't seem to be a large queue of clubs bidding £25m for Scott, that suggest to me it's not fair market value.

Fosun are up to something, this FFP line is complete bollocks given the sales this Summer. Fucking pricks
I mean there's no argument there, they lied about FFP in the past (then cheerfully admitted shortly afterwards that it wasn't true), they lied about how our season ticket prices were now comparable to similar clubs (no they aren't and it's a bollocks argument anyway).

However what you can't do is have two and a half years where you get pretty much every major decision wrong and expect to come out totally unscathed. We did have our PL status preserved which is fortunate as otherwise we really would be in trouble, what this is boils down to is paying the metaphorical bill for signing Fabio and Semedo for daft fees, sacking Nuno, appointing Lage, retaining Lage and signing Guedes. You take even one of those factors out and we don't have anything like the same kind of problem.

We've already bid £18m for Scott.

If he's our top target and we think he's going to be a very good player and increase in value, then why are we not interested in upping that to £20m and including some extra addons to get it sorted as early as possible.

It just feels like we're just gambling no-one else is going to be interested IMO.

Again with Elvedi we've no idea what we've bid other than the reported €8m from one tweet. But he's not a really expensive player. If we want him we could get it done quickly no problem. Maybe he's just an option we haven't decided on yet.

Could be a good bargaining ploy. We haven't sold anyone any good* yet and those that have been sold, we've got top dollar for them.
*Except Neves obvs.

If you're taking Twitter as gospel then we did that a week ago.

Initially I thought this too.

The FFP line is bullshit and we all know it. To use it as an excuse in a transfer and then pedal it to a journalist is embarrassing for them.

I have come to the sad realisation Jeff is still shit at running a football club and Guo's a tit for not replacing him.

I hope they sell up and fuck off, nothing but Chinese Ashley's.

Might this latest FFP thing from Romano just be totally wrong? It's only him reporting that isn't it? Might be him trying to fill in the gaps.

The Argentinian journo was suggesting that we were waiting to sell a striker before we could sign anyone and Genoa had put a deadline of Friday for their offer. He decided to accept their offer rather than wait for us.

How much was it we were supposed to have offered? £18M? That's more than enough to get in a striker in the next 5 weeks and we might end up selling Fábio as well.

The last bit of hope I’m clinging to is that Lopetegui is still here.

Maybe through his lens this is a workable strategy that is still to play out. I can’t see it but (clutching at straws), why else would he still be here?

Regardless of FFP (bollocks or not), we do need to be able to field a competitive PL first XI and a half decent subs bench...

A big exodus is quite exciting, but a couple of incomings this week would be most welcome

I can see Elvedi coming in this week once Monchengladbach have signed Wober on loan.

Think we will sign Scott but don’t expect it to happen soon.

I think our first 11 is alright to be honest minus a first choice number 9 (too much to expect from Sasa just yet and Fabio I have no idea what will happen yet).

Sa
Semedo Dawson Kilman Bueno
Sarabia Lemina Nunes Neto
Cunha ST

But we do need better options off the bench, especially as Julen seems very proactive during games
