Agree.

Scott is exactly the sort of player we should be busting our balls to sign.

He’ll be worth £30-40 million in two or three seasons.
Very talented lad, unfortunately our rumoured bid of £18m looks not to be. I can’t believe Bristol don’t want to take 10 quid upfront and a 10k weekly payment over 40 years. Regardless I am sure we will have some players in before the 4th game of the season.

Guess we’ll see! It’s just such a big step up.

Granted, we were the fools who signed Fab for £35m, so…

Scott is supposedly our top target, so I'm a little surprised we wouldn't push the boat out a bit more to secure him after the money we've made so far.

If Bristol want £25m then surely they'd accept £20m plus addons. I can't believe that we've set £18m as a hard limit all of a sudden. That would just be stupid.

Not going to get frustrated by not signing Scott as my knowledge of him doesn’t extend above youtube.

For whatever reason the club feel the price has gone above their ceiling. So will move on to target B. Depends who target B is, their quality and their price whether walking away is the right call.

Could also just be a long term strategy and if someone else goes above £18m for Scott then they can have him but if not then we will be back in the mix.

Maybe our ceiling was £15m* and we have pushed out to £18m?

Regardless of level of target, you have to set out what the top level will be or else you are constantly playing a game with the, in this case a reluctant, selling club.

We stood our ground on Gomes in January after Lyon offered more

Obviously we will use this place to bitch and moan about actions as we should but end of it all we have no idea on anything really

I don't think you're wrong for wondering whether he'll make the step up, there are players who look very good in the Championship and then fail to make the step up. But it's the profile of player which I think many of us want to see signed after a lot of our poor business in recent years. Too much reliance on Mendes, pursuing a young English player who is doing well in the second-tier is a break from the mould for us.

Look at Palace going for this profile of player - they got Eze and Olise combined for much less than we spent on some kid who had barely kicked a ball for Porto.

Personally I really hope we don't give up on Scott, but I'll save my rage until he rocks up at Bournemouth or somewhere!

I guess it worked with Gomes, maybe a similar bargaining style?

Liam really doesn’t help the pantwetters on social media with this kind of nonsense.

1. Obviously we want another defender
2. We “could add in midfield and attack depending on their business offloading players”. Did you miss the bit where we have already flogged Neves, Coady, Collins etc?

Liam has always been a bit slow with news compared to other outlets but now he seems to have turned in to a massive attention seeker too.

Thing is if it was that much of a no brainer then someone else would be making that £25m bid right now, knowing that Wolves and Bournemouth are some way short, and they aren't.

Young players doing really well in the Championship who we should be looking at:

Cundle at Swansea
Giles at Boro
Hoever at Stoke

(I actually agree with you completely)

Think you're being a bit harsh there, not sure what is wrong with his tweet?

Many felt we would be selling more players than we have? And we may still?

Actually surprised there's been no talk about Joel Piroe given how desperate some fans were for Gyokeres

The only add a midfielder/attacker if we sell more doesn't fit in after its revealed we have bid for a midfielder though.

It's a bit "need to sell Berra first" in its wording.

I would suspect the will sign an attacker line is more they would prefer to sell one of Raul or Fab's so they haven't got a grumpy fuck at the club when they are 3rd or 4th choice

Hoever properly turned it around at Stoke. Early games, Stoke fans were not impressed at all and he seemed to get stuck in the rotation of missing squads due to the amount of loanees they had but by the end of the spell, their fans liked him, loved his effort and they really want the club to buy him.

I'm pleased we're getting rid of loads and would actively welcome quite a few more. They're either not good enough, have sadly gone past their natural use or don't fit.

Yep. We clearly aren’t bringing a striker in till one or both go. That’s £70m of transfer fees and more importantly probably somewhere around £150k a week in wages on the sidelines.

If you told me that Hoever's development was severely stunted by that dickwomble Bruno, I'd believe you.

Does that mean he's a Prem player, now or ever, though? Eh... We'll see.

It depends what we bring in.

For example, I'd rather keep Jonny, even as he is now than sign Doc.
