I'm not sure he does personally.

Jonny looked like a soccer aid player the majority of the time. Looked like he was towing a caravan, weak and even his ball skills seemed to have deserted him, constantly miscontrolling it or passing to an opposition player under no pressure.

Even if we ignore respective abilities, it’s HG player and half the wages to fill a seat in the stands. That’s a worthwhile trade on its own.

How many times did Lop switch to 5 at the back for the last 30 mins or so last season? 3 or 4 times?

It may have been touched on, but perhaps this is the idea with Doherty, to offer us a bit more physicality in the air (Semedo gets beaten A LOT in the air) and he's clearly more of a natural WB than Semedo.
Yeah, no more than that I'd say (we had a couple of weird ones where we kept messing about in the first half with it in January, Forest and Liverpool in the cups).

More needs must than anything else, we did it vs Conte's Spurs to match them up as we never had a kick in the first half and should have been a couple down if it weren't for their wonky finishing.

I know Semedo is rubbish at it as well but defending the back post was never a strength of Doherty's either.

Still haven't forgiven him for that Burnley pen.
Pre-Nuno he genuinely couldn't get off the ground as he was a massive fat prick, teams often played on it.

Remember him losing a header vs Antonio in the first minute when he was at Forest. Head went down, decided he was going to have a rough day. 3-0 Forest.

HG I grant you, but on the wages, we have no idea what he'll be on.

Total massacre that was. Peak Channel of Doom with him and Batth next to each other, took us ages to fix as well. Iorfa was raw as all hell but just having one player who could run made so much difference straight away.

He's better going forward then he is at left back. IMO.

Is he? I think he's really poor going forward. Obviously he's got nice feet but his crossing isn't good at least from open play, he generally only makes safe passes and his off ball movement isn't high level either. If anything he much better defensively, to me at least.

We offered him one and we haven't signed anyone to replace him or take his spot so presume that is still on the table
Yep the fact we announced the others have left but nothing with Adama would suggest so.

We're like the ugly but loyal first girlfriend, who gets dumped because their fella is trying to find a fitter girl, but ends up stupidly taking him back when nothing better is on offer for him.

Amazed he hasn't already signed for a Saudi club. Same with Moutinho, I thought the whole reason he was given so much leeway for not turning up to play/say goodbye properly was because he was protecting himself for his new club. That was a load of shite - still hasn't announced his next move.

Doc was a good option for the switch in an offensive sense, as he generally occupied that high and wide area in front of the full back, but where an offensive winger wouldn't be too concerned about tracking or drifting to cover.

That is a very different scenario to being a decent option aerially when you're concerned about defending.

Obviously there's more to it than just the lineup, but...

Doherty - Dawson - Kilman - Toti - Bueno
That's not the absolute worst back five in the world. Puts an incredible amount of pressure on Kilman to play like he's worth as much as the club think he is, though.

Lopetegui has shown absolutely zero inclination to go that way.
