The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

I’ve always had this weird suspicion that Doc is a midfielder who was horribly miscast from the off. But I don’t remember what he’s like under a challenge.

But isn’t pasta supposed to be Al Dante - meaning there’s a wafer thin window to get it ‘just right?’ Or put another way, very easy to get ‘wrong’ - i.e. difficult to cook.

RB is a bit like that - it’s where the crappiest players in a team get shoved because there tends to be the least damage if you cock it up. But this isn’t the school team anymore. I just can’t fathom this signing at all. Underestimate importance of that position at your peril.

Starting to see why outsiders reckon we’re a good bet to go down. Loads of rumours of outgoings, very little on incomings.

Without the supposed micro-analysis of the situation that only supporters of the club can realistically be expected to get their teeth into, Wolves at face value would appear a basket case and nailed on to go down.

Bournemouth have submitted £15m bid for Alex Scott. Rejected by Bristol City earlier tonight.

Understand Bournemouth will bid again — they want to insist in the next days, not leaving the negotiations.

More to follow.

How many times have we seen in the first interviews with new signings where they’ve come here because we made it clear we really wanted them from the get go etc. If Scott is really one of our top targets, I’m amazed we haven’t made a move for him already.

He played a few games for Ireland U21 in CM.

I would never ever ever pick him there.

He played a weird hybrid central right midfield role in a league cup game against Barnet (I think it was Barnet) under Jackett. One of the most anonymous performances I've ever seen from a Wolves player.

It's concerning, but only really becomes a worry if the situation is the same 2 or 3 weeks from now. We are certainly giving off the appearance of a club having a fire sale with no sign of repairing the damage.

Came up on my Facebook memories tonight that we made our first signing of the summer on this day last year. Some guy called Collins

Don't think he did vs Barnet, this was the awesome line-up for that one (containing a future World Cup winner):

------------------------Martinez-----------------------

Doherty-------Ebanks-Landell------Hause-------Deslandes

Wallace--------Price-------------Saville-----------Ojo

-----------------------Enobakhare-----------------------

-----------------------Le Fondre-------------------------

With game changing subs of James Henry, Tommy Rowe and Dom Iorfa

That may be one of the worst left hand sides I've ever seen.

It was in the previous round against Newport County, he was that bad we replaced him with Van La Parra.

Why in god's name I went to two consecutive league cup games I'll never know.

I did get to see Martin Allen in his red trousers though, so every cloud...

Don’t get the point unless it’s an obligation.
Unless there’s an extremely large loan fee it makes no sense. Surely someone will buy him outright even if it is for a little less than Nice pay in total. Bird in the hand applies!

If he does do really well and is in demand - as is quite likely to be the case - they can just do an Afobe, if he’s really poor his value will plummet. Either way the risk is all ours and makes no sense.

I looked into this before when it came up, our recent summer transfer history

Our first team signings last

12/07 - Collins
06/08 - MD1 (v Leeds)
08/08 - Guedes
17/08 - Nunes
31/08 - Kalajdžić
01/09 - Traore*

In 21/22:

17/06 - Mosquera
03/07 - Trincão*
09/07 - Ait Nouri
15/07 - Sá
14/08 - MD 1 (v Leicester)
29/08 - Hwang*

It's not much really and given the squad turnover we've had (and need further), they're now in "dragging heels" territory imo.

I remember being there & absolutely loving the abuse he got solidly about his red chinos, but I can't remember exactly what it was we were singing?

Rúben Vinagre 2.0

Wonder where he'll go on loan next season after he comes back from Nice.
It could be personal for RAN. Plenty of rumours over the last year or so that he's unsettled in England.

Would be a shame if that happens as I think the ability is there.

Maybe we loan him to Nice and Jim Ratcliffe does us a favour and buys the club.
