The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

Just trawled through the last 3 or 4 pages of this thread, and it's frankly pathetic the childish handwringing and revisionism I'm reading.

Now to clarify, I don't think Doc would be a good signing, but so many of you talk as though he's one of the worst footballers ever to wear a shirt for Wolves, yet he was an integral part of a squad that were the best I've seen in my lifetime.
He is one of the worst full backs I've ever seen in a Wolves shirt. Zubar levels of shit.

He was very good at RWB (I can explain the difference to you if you like) in a very specific formation in a very specific team.

He was dropped when that system and team didn't work by the greatest Wolves manager in many of our lifetimes.

Your lack of understanding of football is not a surprise to me.

Your missing of the point I was making is of no surprise to me either (y)

To that outside it must look like asset stripping.

But we know J-Lo doesn’t really rate Sa. So if we can get cash off some mug for him and get a better keeper in (guessing Bonou, if we’ve found what we’re looking for) then makes sense.
Bonou linked with Bayern, not sure we're getting him!

It's a strange feeling as I'm quite happy for these players to go but worried that we won't replace them with better.

Which really shouldn't be that hard.

It’s all very uncertain isn’t it.

I guess the more players we need to replace, the more we have to get right. Hobbs did a decent job of it in January so he has the benefit of the doubt for now but our record for the past couple of years before that would not inspire confidence

At the end of last season I was of the view that there were literally about 5 players I’d be sad to see go. Of the others some were past it, some crocked and some just not that good. I didn’t expect so many to go or be linked with moves. Plenty of time before the season starts but I cannot be alone in thinking if we really are going for a huge clearout it would be wise to get some of the replacements in soon so they can have a few friendlies to get used to playing together. Leaving it late is fine if you’re only bringing in a couple but the more we bring in the longer Lop will need to get them hitting the ground running. Hopefully the next week will see some genuine first teamers coming in.

Hobbs did say they had their targets.

Time is ticking and if their first signing is a shit Irish full back then it makes their job even harder.

I was hoping for Dembele as a home grown freebie but it may be that we end up with a few low cost options as a strategy. I just wonder why when we're not in trouble financially.

So your point is?
That the level of criticism Doherty gets is extreme given what an important player he was during our most successful period for decades.

As I said, I wouldn't re sign him.

But just read some of the comments? They're just so over the top.

But you be you, misrepresent me and criticise in your typical nasty way, maybe it gives you a hard on or something.

He isn't being criticised for being part of a successful team is he?

He's being criticised for being a shit full back, a position he never played in that successful team.

Edit: Note to self, try to be nice to EP.

This was always my concern when the 15 or so players DW put up that we should be selling.

After one over average window suddenly there was so much faith that we'd replace our average players with better, despite all the noises about our low budget, Lop being pissed off etc.

There is 4 weeks till the season starts, so hopefully it'll swing around full circle, but I doubt it.

We did need a clear out as we've not been very good for 3 seasons. The problem is if the things that are being reported come to pass, ive got massive scepticism that they can be trusted to get the replacements right.

January was a good window on the whole but its a small sample size to say we've turned the corner with Hobbs, we still overpaid for Cunha and Sarabia hasn't had the impact we'd hoped yet so it wasn't an unqualified success by any means. Not sure who's making some of the decisions but it doesn't really matter as the end result is the same. Doherty is the shittest, laziest of signings the only "justifications" I've seen are "knows the club" (bollocks statement that means nothing) and "he's free."

I've gone on record as saying I don't think Kilman is as bad as some make out on here but he is at best a mid table/lower half CB, yet we are not only rejecting bids of North of 30m for him but we are giving him a new deal on more money when he still has 3 years on his current deal, they don't know what we need or how to value players correctly.

Sadly I think you're right. ☹️

Again would you like me to explain the difference?
Me, criticising me. Saying I don't understand football. It's pathetic, you're in your late 40s, early 50s? And just constantly spoiling for a brawl with people on here in your passive, or not so passive aggressive way, just grow up.

I don’t think this is true by and large, I think people are mostly just tired of players who aren’t good enough for this level.

At least with new faces there feels like a shot at change.

Yeah I get that, but change isn't necessarily good. Especially if it just getting rid of average, and replacing them with lower than average.

I think a lot of us feel that replacing what we’ve got with worse than that doesn’t tangibly change the season’s outcome. You have to at least try.

If we went into next season with the same team, less Ruben, we’d go down. 100%.
