The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

Re Bueno

Unpopular opinion maybe but I'm not entirely convinced that he's a sure thing. Seen a lot of good aspects to his game but some poor performances as well.

Someone has to move on this summer, we can't go into the season with Bueno, Giles & Aït-Nouri. If it's Bueno that has to go I'm not sure I'd be too upset by it, especially as Toti can play there as well and arguably outperformed Bueno there last season.

I don't think Toti is a viable alternative. He's just not very good on the ball.

Bueno has real top level potential. Toti is at his limit.

I think RAN will go and Giles isn't anywhere near good enough.

We shouldn't be selling our gems we should be building around them.

Keeping Kilman, signing Doc and selling Bueno would be about the stupidest thing we've done in a transfer window and that includes signing shit like Guedes and Silva.

Not a chance Hobbs has put Doc forward.

He'd have got him in January if he really wanted him when he was going for free then and when Hobbs was bringing players in.

It's a Mendes deal.
For all sorts of reasons I am still hoping it will not happen.

Disagree on Toti.

There's a lot to work with with Bueno but I'm not sure what we've seen from Bueno so far is any better than what we saw from Aït-Nouri and everyone seems to have just written him off at this stage.

Toti's crossing was shockingly good for a CB, I thought. Not incredible but surprised me quite a bit when he would get balls in the box.

He's a bit Bambi-on-Ice but I think he's earned some benefit of the doubt based on last season. He scarcely put a foot wrong in either position.

EDIT: To be clear, I'd prefer to keep Bueno. Unless we know we have another gifted lad on the way.

I can see us selling Bueno and RAN and getting Alex Telles in on a free ☹️

Maybe Lop does plan on playing wing-backs and will play Giles and Doc.

He's not Pep or Ancelotti so there's always room for debate and differing definitions, but if people claim Emery and Pochettino are elite then I'm claiming Lop too.
Not sure who is claiming them to be? Certainly not for me. Poch was building his reputation to be such but this Chelsea job will tell you on way or other. Emery no where near but still a better CV than JL.
Semantics aside, the original point was just that a 'very good' manager like him shouldn't be getting the likes of Doc dumped on them as if they were Lage-level
Does this not put more weight in the “he’s on board with the signing” argument?

There are more people in the world than TWF forumites. Type 'unai emery elite manager' into Google. Plenty of people would claim him and Poch are elite, I'd agree. I think Lop is too.

I think it's genuinely confusing, and (if true), the only angle that makes sense (as others have said) is that it's a club favour to Mendes that Lop is weighing against having his own way at other points in the window

Getting the band back together

Willy Boly as well please...

As you said, semantics. They have better CVs than JL though and I don’t think thats debateable. Anyway, it’s pretty irrelevant.

Or the most likely, and non conspiracy, option is he has given it the green light for whatever reason (change of system, frees up a non HG squad space, actually rates him!?, cheap back up, something else).

I wouldn't even put Poch in the "elite" category yet tbh... And frankly I don't expect I ever will, but that's a different conversation.

Most likely based on what?
