If our scouts cannot find a replacement for Kilman and a first choice RB for the money offered by Napoli they should be sacked!
I'm sure the scouts can easily do that.

Kilman is a situation where the manager doesn't want him to go, so they are backing him on that front (unless someone wants to pay £36m for him...which they don't)

We've not switched to a back five very often at all, that would still be weird to sign a player explicitly for a system we will very rarely play (and we'd have to make two subs to accommodate him, an extra centre half then him at RWB),
Looking around and clutching innit.

Don't try and make sense of it and why Lopetegui has gone yes please, then we are just stuck shouting at our laptops

Maybe it's to make Max feel better. "Look, we've now got someone with an even worse leap than you".

Next couple of deals are going to have to be outstanding to balance this one out

I don't think the Johnster is right on this one

I doubt Lop's has gone to Hobbs with the request to sign Doc but Hobbs has put the name in front of JL and given the thumbs up
Not a chance Hobbs has put Doc forward.

He'd have got him in January if he really wanted him when he was going for free then and when Hobbs was bringing players in.

It's a Mendes deal.

The Matt Doherty at RB story at Wolves:

2012/13: Plays the final three months of the season after we've got rid of Zubar. He's shit. We go down to League One
2013/14: Starts the season and is doing ok within reason. Gets injured in Oct/Nov for a month or two and hardly starts another game for the rest of the season
2014/15: Surprisingly gets the nod over Ricketts. Starts alright and we have a good defensive record. Rapidly falls apart and he's the weakest of weak links, at fault for a goal minimum every week. Loses his spot to untried Iorfa before Christmas and doesn't start many after that
2015/16: Plays about three games before Christmas. Then goes to LB after we sell Golbourne and don't replace him. He's wank there too, to the point we have to sign a dreadful (but athletic) winger to hold his hand. Inexplicably wins Player of the Year
2016/17: Probably less than 10 games at RB, he's mostly at LB, where he loses his place to <checks notes> George Saville at one point. He's fat and wank.

Then never played there again for us.

Great stuff, sign him up.

that at the end of it is the Head Coach saying yes.

Blame whoever you want but this deal only happens if the Head Coach agrees. Unless you think JL is bending over more than Bruno Lage did.

Not a chance JL has got furious about the change in circumstances, chucked his mates in the media comments about leaving and then agreed to accept whatever is put his way. He would be back in Spain and probably in talks with Saudi clubs or planning to pop his feet up for a few months

That's the bit you and I don't agree on. I think Doc had been brought in as a Mendes favour by Shi over Lop and Hobbs head and why I think Lop had to be persuaded to stay.

I think it's the change of circumstances he was furious about and had to get his head around. Losing control.

I think Lop walks at the end of August.

Could be Lopetegui is taking a hit here so he gets a target he really wants somewhere else. Or maybe he doesn't really care too much? He's said find me a cheap, homegrown, experienced player to play as a back up full back, Hobbs has come back with Doherty as an easy option and JL signs it off as it's a low priority position?Doesn't have to be as simple as 'signed under Lopetegui = Lopetegui thinks he's brilliant'.

Equally, signing Doherty doesn't mean Lopetegui has to walk. They held lengthy talks where transfer targets surely will have been discussed, after which Julen decided to stay.

He's not going to walk.

Doesn't make sense though

Jeff has done Jorge a favour over Lop's head and because of deals like that he had to be persuaded to stay but will walk.

If he didn't like deals like this being done he would have fucked off in May/early June. Why would he spend another month or 2 watching Jeff drop in players he doesn't want or need.

However Doc has ended back up about to join us, Hobbs, Jorge, Jeff for me JL has said yes to it.

Just got to sit back and watch the rest of this window I guess.

Even good managers make baffling calls at times. Fergie getting rid of Jaap Stam and replacing him with 72 year old Laurent Blanc. Also around the time he'd talk like a mad scientist about playing Ryan Giggs up front.

Nuno is by an incredible margin the best manager I've ever seen Wolves have and he chose to sign Daniel Podence instead of Dani Olmo.

If JL thinks he is brilliant, I would ask him to return to Spain tbh.

For whatever reason he is rejoining, Lop's has said yes and your theory holds up more than anything I can think of but the end result is, he is happy with that. He wasn't he would have pissed off weeks ago.

Wasn't that him being loyal to Jorge?

Love that he did that kind of thing but still old him to fook off when Guedes was offered to him

I guess at the end of the day Lop can just let him rot or be a permanent bench fixture, seems like a waste of money for a club pleading poverty though

FWIW I think its a fairly inexpensive signing, giving us reasonable cover for Semedo, especially if he's not using Hoever and thinks Lembiska isn't quite ready.
