Vardy is just as shot as Diego. Hard pass on both for next season.
Vardy made a smart move a few years back when he turned down Arsenal . Where would he be now had he made that move ?

He's past it now , but he's made his money . He won't have to move down the divisions to finish up . He can do so now if he wishes .

If all the strikers in the world died bar Diego and Vardy of course you are picking Vardy.
Think Diego suits how Lop wants to play far more.

It’s a bit of a loaded question isn’t it. I mean, 99.9% will surely say neither .

I’d rather buy Bobby Firmino. At least we could keep one of our songs going then.

I'd snap their arm off if this was even a possibility. I very much doubt he'd even consider coming here.

even if it was a viable option, I’m not sure Lop would go for him? Basically plays a glass 9, which Cunha sort of does.

Unless you’re going to play him wide in a 4231, but he hasn’t played there for Liverpool to my knowledge.

Class player, no doubt mind

It was an either or from the Jinkster. No other options and had to ignore every other striker in the world (although I was tempted to throw a CB up front to cover both options...)

So in that instance, I just ignored everything else. I love Diego but that is probably more for what he has done off the pitch and somehow managed to replace 3 or 4 big characters but he is done as a forward in a scoring sense. Vardy, like all at Leicester has been poor this year but as he has shown recently, still has a goal or 2 in him

He can and has played as a proper number 9 for Liverpool. Their style with Mane and Salah dictated he would generally be the one dropping to link play but I've no concerns on his ability to play as a proper front man. His movement around the box and finishing are 10 times as good as Cunha.

O yeah, I get that they were the only two options,

I just think we benefit so much more from that focal point up top, someone who can hold onto the ball, etc.

I dont disagree vardy has more goals in him than costa (think my Nan has to be fair) but we need that focal point to link play. We’ve seen with no physical presence up top how poor we are.

I’m not doubting his ability, but I’m not sure he as a 9 fits into lops style from what I’ve seen. He’s no where near physical enough and I haven’t seen anything in his hold up play to suggest he would be suitable

It’s all well and good signing the best players we can, there still needs to be a plan to it..

But you gain someone that can run in behind, something else we don't have. It's Hobson's choice between the 2, but we may well only play the way we do with Costa because that's the only way we can

Can we have both as an option.

My knowledge of lop in Spain isn’t great I admit, but I was led to believe he always has a focal point rather than someone who runs in behind?

He usually played with a false 9 who dropped deep, with the wider players in a 4-3-3 coming inside to combine, and the full-backs providing width.

Hard for anyone to run in behind for Wolves as the build is often too slow, by the time anyone is looking to play into those areas the opponents have had time to organize and drop off to occupy that space if they wish. You've got to play quicker and more direct if you want to get people in behind with any regularity.

If you look at how we played against Villa particularly in the first half, with Neves higher up the pitch there were a number of opportunities to beat their high line with that type of player. I doubt it's the style we are looking for though

Thing is we'd need a massive overhaul to play that way. There's only really Bueno who's any good playing that way from fullback, and none of our 726 wingers have shown they can play as an inside forward, apart from maybe Neto for a few short spells here and there.
I'm hoping this is where a Sarabia who is more settled in will flourish.

The Brentford-Chelsea games showed we look best under Lop with a narrow shape where the mids/wingers move outside and width comes from fullbacks.

I was lead to believe it was more a target man false nine to hold up play etc? If not then fair enough. However having spent money on cunha I doubt we’d be in the market for another like that
